Oh can I relate to noisy neighbors!

My friend and I moved into the bottom floor of a three story apartment complex. It was rather nice at first - the patio was right infront of our cars, we weren't facing the West so the sun didn't bother us in the mornings...etc.
Well our neighbors above us weren't married but had children. Unfrotunately I was in the room below the children's bedroom. All I cal say is that it gets rather annoying when you are awakened by some child jumping on the bed at 6 a.m. or at 8 a.m. on the weekends! Not to mention, they kid(s) would run around and then jump. Kinda like she was running and then jumping once she stopped. That gets rather annoying when you're trying to watch tv. But the above instances didn't cause for me to come unwired.
One other time I came home for lunch from school and all I could hear was some heavy metal music BLARING in the living room and the sound of two people going at it. Worse yet I could SEE my living room ceiling bounce So I simply went into my room and blared a teeny-bopper type cd and I think they got the hint

Overall I think the most annoying thing I encountered about apartment living is parking.
Like I mentioned above we had parking right outside our patio. So why was it that when my roomie and I would come home late from the gym we would have to park in the other apartment complex's parking? It drove me nuts because some stupid lady and guy who lived in the other complex would park in our lot. I don't know how many times I was tempted to leave them a note but never did Worse yet, I would get infuriated by those who'd park and take up TWO spots! ARG! I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that anymore!

lol, I've gotten used to calling the towing company. There are two spaces per apt plus 2 visitor spaces for the whole complex. Perhaps those 2 visitor spots aren't enough for everyone, but there are places by the dumpster they can park! Plus lots of kids think they can just park in the complex and walk to class cause it's so darn close to school. They get the "missing car" syndrome when they get back!

If someone ends up in my space, I make a few knocks on doors inquiring and if I don't find that person, it's NOT my problem. It's the responsibility of the tenants to tell their guests not to park in marked spaces!

The apt. complexes in Tallahassee are infamous for towing. Just about every complex has decals and visitors passes. And let me tell ya....if it was after midnight and you weren't in the designated spaces/didn't have a decal, you might as well be ready to write the $90 check. Most places did roam towing from midnight to 7 am. I hated the policy when I just wanted to have my friends over, but my complex had a small lot and it just couldn't deal with more than the residents and their 2 allowed guests. A resident should not have to park across the street just because others are having wild parties, so I can understand the policy.

And in regards to playing music to give neighbors a hint....I didn't know other people did that too. We did that one time when the guy upstairs was on a roll. HIs choice of music was hardcore rap..so we turned up the Indigo girls so loud we couldn't stand it. We figured that was about as opposite as you could get

I'm bringing this topic back up because I am dealing with really noisy neighbors. I live on the first floor and we're having trouble with our upstairs neighbors. The staircase for their apartment is right next to my bedroom. It's wooden so it makes a lot of noise when they walk on it. That's fine and I'm understanding of that. But, the guy who lives above us is about 300 pounds and on his way to work at 6am, he likes to run down the stairs causing our whole apartment to shake. They enjoy playing their bass at all times of the day and have loud conversations late at night. We were told by our landlord that there is four inches of concrete between our apartment and theirs so it's ridiculous that we hear them. And, we hear things that we really, really, really wish that we couldn't hear (ie- moaning, screaming). They use to have roommates (me and my roomie got along really well with them) but they ended up moving out because of unresolved issues between them and the other couple they were living with. Our apartment complex detests our neighbors because they've caused all sorts of problems.
My roomie and I have mentioned several times to them that the noise level needs to be taken down some (and we've always been nice about it) but we've had the door slammed in our face each time. We made an official complaint with our apartment complex but that got our neighbors riled up even more. They're been purposely slamming the door and running down the staircase. They had a party last night and me and my roomie both had to be up early for work. My roomie started banging on the wall to get them to be quiet. We both saw them early this morning as we were leaving for work. We gave them dirty looks (couldn't help it....we don't like them). My roomie went to the leasing office an hour ago to say something to the landlord about the party our neighbors were having only to find out that our neighbors wrote a noise complaint on us. They cited us for banging on the walls and BEING RUDE. They said that we were rude because we gave them dirty looks in the morning. The apartment complex thought it was hilarious (luckily, they're on our side).
We couldn't help it, our neighbors were outside at 8am riding on a unicycle and throwing fire batons. WE HAVE CARNIES FOR NEIGHBORS!!!!! Of course we gave them weird looks!!!!
So, we have a meeting set up with them for this Friday to work out our differences. Sigh....this should be interesting.

Last year, when I was living in the campus apartments (mostly athletes - really loud obnoxious, "i can do whatever I want because i'm an athlete" people) there were lots of noise problems.

We thought it was the girls below us at first - so my roomates would stomp on the floor of their bedrooms. Turns out, it was the guy below us and behind us. His music was THAT LOUD. But, he was a football player.

Then there was the case of the ever-repeating song. The girls below us woul put on a song, usually Whitney Houston singing the national anthem, and play it over and over. And leave. It was very bizarre.

Oh, if only it were my neighbors that were the noisy ones. My dorm room is right over the dance studio. Starting early in the morning I have the African Dance classes and their drummer below me. Later in the afternoon I get the tap classes and the modern dancers with their strange music. At night time I get the thumping from the aerobics classes and their bad disco music and even later at night and into the early hours of the morning I have everyone that uses the studio to practice for auditions. Luckily, I have gotten used to it and have learned to ignore it.

Ouch! Hope the noisy neighbors quiet down soon.

We had paper-thin walls in my dorm, and one year the triple next door to me had the LOUDEST group of girls in it. "Indoor voice" was obviously a foreign concept to them! These girls also would turn off the stove burner if I (or anyone) set a pot of water on it to boil for pasta and walked away for even a minute.

And the teenagers where I currently live will insist on their bass at odd hours of the night... BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM grrr...

I forgot...

About the guys above me. They're skinny, dorky looking dudes. But it sounds like they fall down all the time. They are LOUD. One afternoon, I thought they were killing each other. I called the management. By the time they made it out, the guys were gone. I still think they got fined for the complaint

oh man, i have a story too...
our dorms are set up as one big huge room with two doors, divided down the middle with thin (1/2 inch) wooden panels that make up our closets.. over the years they have acquired little holes from putting up posters and such.. anyway, we had this room mate who used to play the SAME REGGAE SONG over and over and over and over again.. god it got annoying.. one night she came home with a guy, put that song on, and starting having sex with him VERY LOUDLY ... i could hear every WORD they said.. TERRIBLE! so the next day my roomie and i moved our speakers into the closet next to her bed and put on "it's a small world after all" and left for the day.... 8 hours later when we came back, she was gone, and we never heard that reggae song again

My sophomore year I lived in an apartment on the first floor. My first floor neighbor and I both had Mexicans living in the two apartments above us--I don't say that to be racist or anything, I mean literally they were from Mexico, and they used to play their Mexican music LOUDLY where you could hear it no matter which of their apts it was coming from. The ones above us had sex ALL the time and the TV was often loud. They also had a very loud system in their car and they would park it outside our back window (that was where the parking spots were) and jam out to some funky Mexican music that was so loud our windows literally rattled from the bass of it. It was pretty pathetic that you could always hear them coming home before they even got to the drive that goes into the parking lot EESH!

OK-Some of you may recall I can not STAND my neighbors!!!
The other day, my son and his friend were painting the house and they put some music on. Not MY choice of music-Soundtrack from 8 Mile(s) ??? Anyway-SHE comes home and about 10 minutes later sends her son over and he talls them to turn the music down-it was NOT that loud and the lyrics were NOT discernable past 3-4 feet. Now here's the clincher-HER son has a band (at least that 's what THEY call it.) I have had to listen to him on the DRUMS hours on end and their group practice STINKS-their vocalist couldn't find a note if you handed it to him! and the rest of them...well, I don't think NAPSTER would have allowed them on site! Did I ever complain-NEVER! Because I feel music is so important and would never hamper their self expression.
The ONLY reason she sent her son over was to subject us to her
whims. We have a business relationship with her parents. If that EVER changes, I'm gonna blast her off the street-up one side and down the other. To HELL with social niceties...she won't know what hit her. This has been going on for 7 'frickin" YEARS!!!

I wouldn't say that I have noisy neighbors. My neighbors are potheads so if the wind is blowing just right and our windows are open we get a nice wiff...

I don't necessarily mind my neighbors, it's just that the walls seem thin. I can hear when my neighbor uses her shower or garbage disposal...etc.

And then the guy that lives above me...he's not a huge guy by any means but he must walk very forcefully because it always sounds like he's stomping on his floor. And then some nights I'll be peacefully enjoying a show on tv and BAM, something in his apartment drops and you can hear it roll across the kitchen floor. I dunno what his deal is, but he's a little odd.

To add to it, he's got this stupid car that he's obviously put some money into as far as a muffler and exhaust and all that stupid stuff (no offense men). Anyways, he has a timer on his car. So when I first moved in he'd get out and I'd hear this car's exhaust rattling and muffling away and thought to myself, "Jeez get outta your car already" only to look out the window and not see anyone there. It would be on timer for (and I kid you not) TWENTY FIVE MINUTES! I'd lay in bed listening to that damn thing at 1 am in the morning. Finally when I had some guy friends over, who know a lot about cars, they asked how long he had it on timer for and he said 6 minutes (speaking of which, there he goes right now)....so he finally did calm it down!

Sheesh!

I've never had super noisy neighbors, although I think I have been guilty of being one before...

I'm moving this weekend though... to a downtown loft/apartment building. Word on the street is that half the guys who live there are deejays... and like to play very late. When you call the building's offices the message actually says, "If you are calling to inquire about a loft, press one... if you are calling with a noise complaint, press two..."

I think it will be fun though... you're only young once!
