Yeah, I kind of agree with my sister on this one. Partially because I know of a Clemson PNM who would have liked to have that SK bid. I hope SK puts on its best face and wows Lucy! I know they saw something special in her because they kept her while letting others go.

OMG I said that to her, that SK saw something special in her that the other chapters didn't! Great minds think alike!

To all the Sigma Kappas who are reading this...
Please, please, please don't think that this is a "diss" somehow to you, because it's not.
Talking to Lucy this week I KNOW that she liked Sigma Kappa, the entire week. I think just preference at Rue won her over more than SK did.
I also truly believe that once the emotions settle she will be fine.
I think it just hit her really hard.
Think about it, when you've got your heart set on one thing and you get another, it hurts. We've all been there with different situations in our lives. I just think with recruitment it is even harder. The girls are selling themselves to the chapters and the chapters are selling themselves to the girls.
I KNOW that Sigma Kappa is an AMAZING sorority. I ALSO know that she will be amazing in it!
Please don't lose hope. She is young and she is emotional right now.

Reason: I removed who Rue & Gale were needed to fix here.

Her phone went straight to voicemail, thinking this is a GOOD sign!

I think you're right. Being caught up in the moment is draining and then when it doesn't go as expected you don't always react in the normal way. I do believe that going to voicemail is a good sign. :-)

If Rue does such a great job with their pref parties, and it sounds like they do at this chapter, they probably had a lot of PNMs ranking them highly on their cards.
Congratulations to Lucy on Sigma Kappa!

To anyone who may fault this poor girl for not being ecstatic with her bid, hold off. She is trying. She went to bid day. Give her a chance. Recruitment isn't always sunshine and butterflies...even when it ends up being our beloved sororities. I can tell you that more than once I was the sister pulling the crying NM into a room on bid day for a pep talk before taking her to the bathroom to wash her face. Those sisters frequently went on to be the best AOIIs. It can be hard to process rejection and put on a happy face in front of a bunch of screaming happy people when all you want to do is have a pity party. If you had a day or two to think it over, you'd probably thank your lucky stars that you got a bid at all and move on, but the shock is more than some girls can take. I hope she finds a Sigma Kappa sister that bonds with her at bid day and comes back lavender and maroon to the core!

When the criers transfer their affections, they can be just as strong for their love or stronger, because it is based on more than unicorn farts from rush.

Ouch, joining my SK sisters and saying I don't know how I feel about this one...my emotional side talking. My rational side agrees with all that has been said, she is a 18 year old who has just gone through an emotional week and is dealing with disappointment....hoping our SK sisters can show Lucy how much they wanted her...based on this thread, I can see why!
Welcome Lucy to the mystic bond! (SK sisters, do we still say that phrase? are we allowed to say it in public??) Clearly I was never in charge of ritual.

I'm not offended at all. Recruitment is incredibly draining, and it's a rare PNM who isn't emotionally overwrought at some point during the process. She didn't get her first choice and that stings. This may very well be the first 'big' disappointment she's ever had, and that sort of shock can make you blind to the positive side of things (positive being, of course, that she received a bid to a wonderful organization that will provide her with fantastic opportunities over the next four years). Hopefully she'll pull it together and make the most of her Bid Day, and in the very near future, when the hurt of not getting what she wanted wears off, she will realize that her new chapter has great things to offer her and will fulfill her potential to be a great sister in that chapter.

The story would have best been continued with Hunger Games names instead of the actual names of the houses.

Congrats to Lucy and ΣΚ! I hope she embraces the whole experience. She's very lucky to have someone like love2read guiding her through the process.
The whole thing reminds me of a pregnancy craving. You normally love chocolate cake, but someone mentions pickles and suddenly you can't stop thinking about them. If your heart is set on those pickles, it doesn't matter how amazing chocolate cake is at first- you were set on pickles! You have a choice to either embrace the chocolate cake that you've always loved and have in front of you, or pine away for the non-existent pickles. Then- bring on that amazing chocolate cake!

I disagree. In the original GC recruitment stories, no codes were used at all. Dgdramadawg's annual threads are a great example of how every single woman has a unique experience, perspective, and reaction to the same groups within the same week. Maybe I just prefer realism though.
