Post At school...

in the DC area this is what I see the most

Sororities

Delta (especially during their Delta Days)
AKA
Zeta

Fraternities

Omega
Alpha
Kappas
(there are plenty of Iotas in MD though)

When I'm home in Boston, (although it's not that often)

AKA
Zeta
Delta

Alphas (they're really the most visible BGLO in New England)
Sigmas

I'm sure they're more people, I just don't see people wear their letters at community events.

I am an undergrad interest that attends school in Manhattan. It is hard for me to see who's who because most of the students commute. I have seen I SGRho and one Zeta on campus ( they were walking somewhere in a hurry like everyone else in this city). I saw Delta at my gym a few times (she wore a sweatshirt with sorority name). I haven't seen an Alpha as of yet. I do try to attend events since I know it is harder in NYC since there is so much going on here. It is hard for a person to stay in one spot. Thank goodness for the internet because that is my primary source for finding out when there is a greek event going on.
Coming from an HBCU down south to a CUNY school at home, I was shocked to find out how hard it is to spoke greeks on campus. My personal take on the issue.I guess all interested parties will have to work harder to find out what is going on and where.

Question

I am from Yonkers, NY and my playground was Brooklyn! Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated has always made it's presence known through out the country. Growing up in NY I knew about sorority and fraternity life from my teachers, relatives and family friends that attended various colleges through out New York. I was and AKA Westchester County debutante. Now going to places like Jones Beach during the summer the presence of the Omegas and Sigmas was high. The AKAs, Deltas and Zeta presence was high. Through my travels and residing through out the country AKAs and Deltas have always been dominant. Alphas, Omegas and Kappas have always been dominant as well. Sigmas, Zetas, Rhos and Iotas have been sporadic. Yet in the North I must say Sigmas in the North seem to be more active and visible.

Like my good Bruh Swamp said, many things are regional.

As far as numbers in the NY area there are definitely more Sigmas and SGRhos than probably anywhere else in the country, especially younger ones.

Philadelphia: on the grad level, Omega, Alpha, and Kappa all represent but Kappa may be strongest because that is where there national headquarters are. Kappas and Alphas have always been strong on the u.g. level but I see more and more Sigmas.

Grad: There are many AKAs but I know mostly about what the Deltas do and they are everywhere and into everything. Couldn't tell you anything about the others.

U.G. I see many more SGRhos and Zetas now, maybe as much as the AKAs and Deltas

Chicago and Atlanta

Hometown on Chicago:

CHI is a AKA owned city..their nationals are there and they just seem to be everywhere and involved in everything.

SGRhos also make a big impact because their nationals are loacted in Chicago.

Zetas and Deltas are prevalent but scarce.

As far as frats go I see alot of Omegas, but we have a very large population of IOTAS.

Alphas and Sigmas do their thing but they are not as big.

Down on the yard in the ATL!!

Omegas run the yard and Alphas hold a lot of influence in a close second.

AKAs and Deltas are tied each having a ridiculous amount of active members on campus

Zetas and Sigmas do they thing and hold it down for the blue and white!!

IOTAS and SGRhos are very distant, you'll be lucky to see more the two of them at a time..but I still got love for them!!!

DC area

Well I'm located around DC and the three BGLO's that I see the most is:

1) OMEGA PSI PHI
Always on the yard stepping EVERY friday @1:00
2) DELTA SIGMA THETA
Hosting a number of meetings concerning the black community
3) ALPHA PHI ALPHA
I think that they do the MOST volunteer work

Speaking from the Windy City........

There are a LOT of Sorors (deltas) and AKAs in Chicago! Actually one our largest Alum chapters is the Chicago Alum chapter over 600 members (and just think that is ACTIVE sorors, not including inactive sorors, and undergrad chapters in Chicago) And I never realized how many sorors were from Chicago, until we had our National Convention in Chi-Town Summer of 2000!!!! Come to think of it, AKA and Delta may have a TIE in Chicago They(DST/AKA) are EVERYWHERE!!! Not only that, but everytime I come home to Chicago from school, I am ALWAYS seeing different programs, and events sponsored or hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha ________Chapter, or Delta Sigma Theta ____chapter!!!!

I don't see too many SGrhos, and I may bump into a Zeta every now and then

I am ALWAYS seeing Alphas (especially driving to work, I see the para on there cars)
Kappas are all over the Windy City as well, and so are the Omegas.
Don't see too may Sigmas, I don't remember ever seeing a Beta or an Iota!!!
