All right, here's what is or purports to be the Bama list
http://blog.al.com/tuscaloosa/2011/0...e_ua_soro.html
Have a blast! Best to all Bama new members and any of their family members and friends who've been following the stories and comments.

It's done! The Alabama 2011 NMs spreadsheet.
Thank you SOOO much to DubaiSis, unarose, and myopicsunflower for making this possible!
There are a LOT of out of staters, even more than Auburn. According to their enrollment census, of the whole student body:
68% are from Alabama
32% are from out of state
Of the 2011 Panhellenic new members:
41% are from Alabama
59% are from out of state
A few things jumped out at me:
-Only 3 chapters had more than 50% of their new members from Alabama
-In total, 20% of the women receiving bids were not from the South
-6 chapters had 20% or more of their members from outside the South
-One chapter had about 47% of their new members from outside the South
-Often, the Alabama and Auburn chapters of the same NPC group tend to have the same trend of in staters vs out of staters or non Southerners. For example, AGD at both schools tends to have a lot of women from Alabama, and Gamma Phi Beta at both schools tends to have a lot of out of staters, and a lot of members from outside the South.
I had so much fun doing these spreadsheets, particularly Auburn and Alabama. We often read about how being out of state or from outside the South is the kiss of death at big competitive SEC schools...but I beg to differ!
*I considered NC, SC, GA, FL, MS, TN, KY, LA, TX, AR, and OK as the South. All other states I considered outside the South. Like Auburn, most NMs from VA were from the northern part of the state.

I think for me, especially after you shared this completed-with-stats version, one of the things that stood out most was this: that although both chapters had a good percentage of Out-of-State NMs, Chi Omega and Kappa Delta each had only 3 and 4 non-Southern NMs respectively (bless them).
I'm certainly hoping we get to analyze the geographical make-up of the new Delta Gammas ( ), though I don't find any evidence that a separate press release of NMs was made in 2008 for Alpha Phi, so…guess all I have right now is that smidgen hope.
Helping with this was entirely my pleasure (especially since it was for Alabama—where I would've gone if everything had lined up right, lol).

Tease!
Oh, AggieAXO - I saw that you had posted and thought "YES! She will have the bid list!".
My Gamma Phi contact was told that releasing it was a privacy issue . . . but I just know SOMEONE here can get it.

Nope, I wish. It seems A&M does not like to release lists like the other schools. Most of the time to find out where girls pledged, we had to read the Battalion (A&Ms newspaper-many soroities will take out an ad with their pledges names).

It was my pleasure. Now, I think we should all start haranguing the various school newspapers to post their rush results. We've seen the quality of so many of them - they can use some suggestions!

I would love to sink my teeth into University of Texas' bid list, if anyone can find it. Much/most/almost all of my knowledge about competitive Southern recruitments comes from Greek Chat, and it is my perception that Texas is one of the most brutal. Since 92% of the students are in state, I'd be interested to see how those 8% of out of staters fare.

It's a safe bet that the traditionally aged freshmen (those most likely to go through rush) lean more heavily out-of-state than the student body as a whole. As flagship public universities, Auburn and Bama attract a fair number of older, returning students and transfers from smaller, commuter-heavy 2- and 4-year schools. Students in that demographic are generally in-state, and they generally do not rush. My guess is that the geographic balance among 18-year-old freshmen is closer to 50/50.

I would also love to see a UT bid list if someone can find it. It would be very interesting to analyze. So if someone knows where we could find that, it would be great!

A few years ago, UGA had a spreadsheet on their greek life website that also listed grade level as well as hometown. I do remember having a lot of fun sorting it different ways, and in particular by hometown where I noticed trends of certain metro Atlanta high schools heavily represented in particular chapters. Those kinds of statistics, like the Alabama and Auburn examples here, can back up or disprove a lot of myths....like "ABC only takes Birmingham girls", or "I didn't get invited back because I'm not from Alabama".

I know someone who looks EXACTLY like the Volunteer in that picture. He even wears a hat all the time.

I have a copy of the A&M bid list, but this site will not let me list an attachment. If you can tell me how to get it to you, I'll send it. I have a personal file...it's not posted on a website.
