I've noticed most organizations hold their conventions biennially rather than annually, is there a reason for this?

Our convention is specifically for fraternity business. This gives us time to vote in new international officers which serve for the biennium. We have a meeting called Leadership Institute in the even years at Headquarters that is strictly for training with no business as well as Leadership Academy every year in February for additional training. Our awards are given out each year at Convention and LI.

See, we have Convention every 3 years, but hold our CAB/Volunteer Summit (advisors and other alumnae volunteers) annually (in Convention years, we hold both together in from like Wed-Sunday.)
We also hold Officer Academy (collegiate officer and leadership training) annually in Jan (one in every region.) There's also Women of Character Institute for selected members over the summer (combined with CAB/Volunteer Summit.)

Sounds kind of like what we do. Convention is when there are business meetings and voting for bylaws and officers occur. Conventions for us are odd numbered years.
In even numbered years we do Volunteer Leadership Seminar (VLS) and IMPACT (training for upcoming collegiate leaders in the chapters), which we do in Atlanta.
In February we do District Leadership Conferences. This is for our newly elected officers who get some more training on their new position.
We also get chapter awards at VLS and Convention but DLC as well.

^^^^We are triennially!
I think the main reason = Conventions are really expensive for orgs and require a LOT of planning in advance. Hence the every 2 (or 3 years) thing. You're bringing together basically your entire org, so it's hard to do every year.

That's true, I wonder why we do it every year.... Not that I'm complaining

I'm surprised no one else posted for us.
We just had our 160th anniversary convention June 22-26. It was amazing! It was held at the Biltmore in Phoenix, AZ.
This was my 3rd convention.
One of the attendees, well she won Old Timers and this was her like 24th convention. It was pretty amazing.
We initiated the great, great, great granddaughter of one of our founders. That was an amazing initiation to witness! One I will never forget. (I'll also never forget it because the mom of one of my sisters initiated. Her mom is amazing and had been coming to our Christmas parties for 2-3 years and is just amazing. When I saw she was being initiated I started crying).
Our next convention is Dallas in 2013.

I attended Alpha Xi Delta's convention in Atlanta at the begining of this month. It was my first and I attended as delegate for my Alumnae Association. I had the most amazing time and I met dozens of wonderful women I am so proud to call my sisters. I can't wait for 2013 when convention will be in San Francisco! I've never been there and I'm looking forward to a great trip. I've started saving already!
