Totally coincidence. The AOII house at Ole Miss has had a few facelifts from the original 1950s square box (aka taco hut) it use be! I couldn't get the new additions in the picture that are to the left of the front door. I have seen the AOII house at UGA a few times in person and they are different. They both are brick and have columns but totally different.

Back in the day, nearly every house had a "snow picture" in their Rush slide show - all of the houses are pretty, but covered in snow, they look magical - it never failed to elicit an "ooh" from the rushees. I rushed in 1993, after the blizzard, and there were some spectacular slides.

And you know, you could *walk* down Milledge...classes are out today.

Yeah, but after severely busting my hump just walking to get something from my car, I've decided to keep my uncoordinated self indoors until at least some of it melts

We've got 2-3" way up north in Ohio, school dismissed early, and it's already 50/50 for a cancellation tomorrow. Looks so pretty today, and I'm glad my southern friends get to experience what's pretty normal for us. Then again, I don't miss my Old Kentucky Home when there's weather like this! They simply can't deal with snow!

You don't have to explain to me - I rolled an ankle over the summer and I have been terrified about ice, stairs and icy stairs ever since. Stay safe!

So, cabin fever is setting in big time. My kids are just too young (4 and 2) to handle snow this deep, as they just keep falling over and getting frustrated. Since this happens about every 4 steps, and we don't have snow suits, they are wearing jeans and getting soaked.

We are stuck at home because we live at the top of a long and steep hill, which currently is a sheet of ice. My husband has managed to get to work each day by parking the 4WD at the entrance to our subdivision and walking to/from the house.

I work hard to enjoy this time in my kids' lives, and not look forward to older ages, but it is verrrry hard to not be jealous of those moms who can just send their older kids out in the back yard to play.

Our older kids don't understand (not even our college kids) the concept of black ice. They don't believe that they would spin out, not them! Two have to cross the state to go back to school and we're trying to get them to wait until the weekend.

The snow, after melting a little and then refreezing, is hard and crunchy now so the kids can't play in it. We still have about a 4" cover.

This is our third day out of school. The teachers are worried that this has killed the February break or part of spring break.

Blondie, I hear you about trying to enjoy this time of your kids' lives and not wishing that they could just hurry through it. When I had 6 little girls under 6, I would occasionally be conflicted like that but older parents would repeat, "Little children, little problems. Bigger children, bigger problems." They were right, the problems are harder to deal with and/or solve as they get older!

I had about 8 inches. Stuck at home for 2 days. Thankfully I was able to go to work this morning.

I will say that it was excellent snow for doing snowy fun in.

My fiance's parents are in Georgia right now (flew in right before the storm hit) and are completely baffled by the situation down there. They live in the snowbelt of Ohio and are completely used to have 1-2 feet of snow from December through February. I've tried to explain to them that they just down have the snow removal capabilities that we do up here, but I'm pretty sure they just think the entire state of Georgia is insane, lol. They picked a bad week to head south.

The entire state is insane, but that doesn't change the fact that the infrastructure isn't there to deal with it.

Plus, as a native Atlantan, I can drive on snow as well as anyone, but I cannot and will not drive on ice. And that's what they've got right now. My father had to drive my mother (who is a nurse at a hospital downtown) in this morning and he said there are sheets of glare ice all over the interstates.

I won't even try to explain the Great Bread/Milk Panic because I surely don't understand it.

Except this time the nutty people were actually right! My husband went to the grocery store Sunday night to fill a prescription. He said the aisles were bare- there was practically nothing left to buy! However, it is now Wednesday, and our street is still not safe, and probably won't be until Friday. Lord help my calcium-loving 4 year old and his milk addiction if we ran out of the stuff.

Agreed that 99/100 times though the mad rush to "stock up" is for a storm that last less than 24 hours, so yeah, i will never understand.

Just because I don't get it doesn't mean I didn't participate. We don't eat much bread, but for two thirtysomethings without kids - we can suck down a gallon of skim at an alarming rate. I blame my husband's crack-like addiction to cereal.

Of course, I'm in Nashville and we haven't been compromised at all.

But we have milk.

Y'all need to see pictures of PSU in the winter to see some beautiful snow pictures! I'm going on the prow...

In the meantime, we only have 5-6" in my neighorhood. So many people turn around in my driveway (it's very wide, like 3 spaces wide), but does anyone stop to shovel even a pathway for the little dog to do his business? Nooooooo! I'm calling a guy who does snow plowing, and am tempted to put up an honor box for those who insist on turning around. One of the guilty parties is the municipality's snow trucks!
