I can tell you Douchcanoe is now part of my every day lexicon. I await with anticipation the first time I hear someone other than my husband or me use it.

How does one pronounce this fabulous new word? Is it like volcano or canoe?

I assumed like canoe, since it was used in conjunction with 'fleet'

Random question time... If the girls ask at one of the invitational rounds, say the day before pref or the first day after open house or any other day where the visits are invite-only, "How many parties do you have," what are you supposed to say?

they shouldn't ask, but every now and then they do. i wish that you could say,"why do you ask?" or just give them a blank stare.

you could try to ignore the question and switch the topic. something like,"i was so happy to see your sorority on my invitation list", or something to that effect.

We were always told not to ask that.

We are all told we are not allowed to ask but I think I've heard about it happening every single recruitment (including when I was a PNM). I was honest with them but I don't really know if that was what I should have said or if there is some other response I should have had prepared..

If girls (I assume you mean sorority members) are asking you how many parties you have, they are probably douchecanoes. That's kind of like if they were asking you how much your dad makes/how many Lilys you have/what kind of car you drive. None of their business and straight up rude.

Oh, and back in the olden days the houses knew how many houses you had before Preference. Now don't jump at once ladies, there was a very valid reason: At MY school, at THAT time, the Panhellenic rule was that you didn't invite a girl to Preference if you weren't going to bid her. At that time the row was religiously segregated and if the Jewish house wasn't willing to extend a bid to a Jewish girl, you didn't get a Pref invitation. And, so as not to discriminate (bad choice of words) every house knew if a girl was carrying only one (and possibly two) house(s) the party PRIOR to Preference.

Hmm, so it is rude for them to do it but sometimes it happens anyway? It would be rude to call them out on it though, right? Could you say something like 'I don't know if I am supposed to say that'? I mean, it makes sense for them to not be 'supposed to' ask, but it seems like it still happens sometimes :/

Yeah, it would be rude to call them out. I would make a note of the sorority who asks you questions like this though. You can always say "my schedule is full!" Because hey, even if you only have one party to go back to, every college student's schedule is full.

call them out on it only if you don't care to return for another round, but don't answer their rude question, either.

So the general consensus on the Party # question is to try to change the subject/don't answer the question? No matter what I think of, no response seems socially graceful *lol* I guess I'd better just hope that I'm not put in this situation!

Thanks, squirrel! That isn't exactly the case... I wish I could tell you what is going on but I have to hold my horses for now to make sure I don't out myself before all is said and done

Sorry to post another question, but what exactly is 'greek rank'? I mean, aside from a website. I was trying to (re)find the Standards of Excellence for my school's chapters and stumbled across this site... I know enough that I didn't click on it or read anything on it, but I am curious.

^^^It's a bunch of people getting together to bash different fraternities/sororities under the guise of "ranking' them. It's a very silly thing to base recruitment decisions on.
