We just got invites for 3 party day.
Hopefully this isn't too much information, but my favorite house dropped me. There is another house that has been a front runner all week and I am very, very interested in it. Another house that has girls I like and really get along with (but I'm worried about their gpa), and a third that I can't picture myself in. I would half to think long and hard about signing a bid card for the third house.

Hope you have a terrific day, Futuregreek - remember what you thought was your fav was based on a few days impression. Relax and have a good time- the sun is shining and there is NO rain today! I'll be thinking of you as we move our son down!
The Greek System at UNL is a ton of fun and friends, with many many strong houses with good national reps - no matter where you end up. My daughter had a tough time her bid day but looking back four years later, she said she would have done fine in any of the three on her card that day, when her original comment was "I am only going to take XYZ or nothing"...she now has friends in many of the houses - and could have seen herself in any of those others as well.

Great Big 12 (or Big 8 for us older folks!) story. I'm love to learn more details about her recruitment following bid day if futuregreek? feels comfortable enough to share.

Thanks, Irishpipes, I saw it. I always think things like that are interesting, no matter what the chapter is! That is an amazing list!

Maybe her absence means she's busy enjoying herself with her new sisters? *fingers crossed*

I'm back!
Unfortunately, I only preferenced two houses out of the three I was invited to. No surprise, I got the dreaded phone call. :-( I was upset and miserable for the whole first weekend of college when I was supposed to be excited and happy. Eventually I convinced myself that I just wasn't the "greek" type, but I always saw the girls in their letters and walked by their houses, and I still wanted to be a part of it all.
Now, 3 semesters later, I am HAPPY to report that I have reluctantly been attending open recruitment events and recently received a bid!
I have to admit, before I when through recruitment my freshman year, I never would have thought about joining this house. But after meeting the women in it, I now know they are all wonderful and I was stupid for listening and believing stereotypes.
Because I just wrote what I did, I won't mention the name of the sorority, but I am 100% confident in my choice and know that I am going to love it. I'm just so excited!!!
To the PNMs - It's been said on here a million times, but I still learned the hard way...don't listen to the stereotypes, make up your own mind. Also, if things don't work out the first time. Don't give up! Take some time off of the Sorority hunt, figure out who you are, and then look again.
To the GreekChat experts - Thanks for your advice over the YEARS (lol). Now, how can I change my user name so that I can go introduce myself in my new sorority's forum?

Congratulations! I'm happy for you and it was fun reading about NE recruitment. My SIL is a Kappa from there.

I've re-read this thread and don't see any disparaging or negative remarks; @futuregreek?, unless you really dislike your current user name, just carry on! And welcome to your lifetime membership. Happy that you have found a home. whatever the letters.

When I first (re)read this thread late last night I had the same reaction as Aztheta: What did you say that was disparaging/wrong/un pc about your sorority chapter? The worst thing you said, I believe, is that you couldn't see yourself as a member. So what? I believe that there are many of us here who felt (and expressed) those feelings about a chapter that we later joined and thrived. Read my recruitment story, I wondered if the girls were too laid back.
What is not ok, in my book, is to say the girls are too fat/not pretty/not hot enough to compare to the fabulous me. That, on so many levels, is something to be ashamed of saying. You grew (as real friendships) as a person.
I'd love to know where you joined. Be proud. You're happy. Congratulations!
