Maybe those Tory Burch flats were a rush necessity...two years ago.
I would say logos are a no-go.

There's a shoe named after Reva Shayne even though Guiding Light got cancelled?

The girls will also know if you're trying too hard. If you are wearing a bunch of stuff that makes you uncomfortable, it's easy to tell. And if you put on an act and get in a house with a bunch of girls that you aren't like or don't like, it will have been a waste of time. Just wear what fits well and what you're confident in. I think back to what I wore during recruitment and I cringe! But then I realize I ended up where I did because of who I am, not what I wore or didn't wear.
Also, I would recommend against referring to anyone as "uppity." That will not endear you to anyone, especially potential sisters.

Something else I wanted to add to this:
When choosing your outfits, remember that you are dressing for a group of WOMEN.
NOT MEN.
If you didn't know, these 2 groups are NOT alike.
What a guy thinks looks good, a girl may think looks AWFUL and INAPPROPRIATE.
That outfit that your bf says looks "totally hot" probably needs to stay on the hanger (unless your boyfriend is Clinton from What Not to Wear or someone else with a sense of style, which I doubt).
The goal of recruitment is not to look "hot."

OMG!!! I just have to say I think you need a reality check. I do not think you are overweight at all! Just because there is a hollywood ideal of what a sorority girl should look like does not make it true!!!!
I think you'll do great at rush I wish you luck!!!

Wow, I didn't know that you actually KNOW that person and can vouch for how awesome she is!
Oh wait...

Wow. And people are wondering why PNMs and others are hesitant to post on here? I think she was just trying to encourage her. Considering the negative view that a lot of people have of Greeks, you would think that that's a good thing.

Unless you know her exact body type and bone structure...you really can't speak to this. As a tall girl who has been told things like "you can carry it" and "no one notices those pounds because of your height" let me say that it doesn't make you feel any better. Each individual knows what it takes to make them feel good. Yeah, maybe to the naked eye I don't look like Roseanne Barr, but it doesn't mean I like where I am and that I shouldn't try to improve myself. This is not "self loathing" or anything like that.
I know there are other tall girls on here who know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

Well, according to a BMI calculator, her height and weight equal a BMI of 25.1, which is on the cusp of normal weight and overweight. True, the BMI may be inaccurate for people who have significantly more or less muscle mass than most.

You haven't been around long.
It's ok to encourage other PNMs, but we try to steer clear of:
"OMG you're soo going to get a bid!"
"I know you're going to do sooo well at rush!"
and things like that.
Why?
Because we do not know if that's the case.
There have been instances in the past of PNMs not getting bids and feeling kind of hurt because GCers said things like that and it didn't happen.
Also, we really don't know these PNMs and how they'll do at recruitment, so why say that?
And really, who's to say that a PNM thinks she is any less pretty or something like that, just because she wants to shed a few lbs. She may just want to feel healthier. Weight loss does not always mean that a girl is starving herself to be in a sorority.

I realize I don't have 3000 posts, but I know the difference between giving false hope and friendly encouragement. I would hope that no one would think they are going to get a bid based on what they read on a random website, but I know that recruitment is stressful and if you haven't been through it you don't know what to expect. It takes a lot of guts to post on here when you know (or don't, as is often the case) that every word is going to be inspected and criticized. It's easy for those of us who are fortunate enough to have had the experience of being a collegiate member to make certain comments; we have the benefit of hindsight.
