I am a huge Star Trek fan, and this was an amazing movie. I was like a giddy little girl the whole time. As soon as "Scottie" came on screen, I could not stop giggling.

You know I’m going to quote a friend of mine on my feelings about this movie…I loved it during and right after…but then I started thinking…a bad thing I know, but he pretty much summed up some of what I was thinking…this is a good intro/restart for the franchise, I will wait until the 2nd movie to really see how I feel about it.
I will say that I loved Simon Pegg and its all about Karl Urban…now that is a nummy treat!
Direct quote from my friend KMD….
I liked the movie.
But that's a gimme, the movie was marketed to me. The hard core fan who's also into the beastie boys and boobs.
And the whole internet likes it, getting hardcore positives from rotten tomatoes, Harry Knowles shitting himself with joy over it.
But this wasn't a Star Trek movie.
The phasers were blasters, the Star Ships were X-Wings, Alderaan was destroyed, even Scotty had a freaking Ewok.
And of course they destroyed Vuclan, the calm logical mind of the federation.
Revenge is not Logical people.
There was no higher purpose to Star Fleet, no humanity reaching the best it could, it was shoot the bad guy before he shoots you. The movie was fluff, beautiful lens flarey fluff, but it had no depth, no logic to it, it could have been told in 40 minutes easy.
Think back to the best star Trek Movies.
Wrath of Khan was Moby Dick.
The Voyage Home was Sleepless in San Francisco.
And The Undiscovered Country was about 4 different shakespeare themes thrown into a country just getting out of the cold war.
They had plots. They had depth.
Of course I'm just being an old Fart Fanboy, I remember a time when there were more Klingons then Stormtroopers at Cons.
But it bothers me they had to Kill Kirks Dad, Spocks Mom, and an entire World. It was dramatic overkill and lazy storytelling. It's almost like a huge middle finger to continuity. They made such a big thing about putting in little trinkets to appease star trek fans and they ripped out what makes the federation the federation.
And nobody seems to care, it's not bothering anybody. Maybe it's because we're at the cool kids table for a bit and we sort of like it, but I'm sort of used to being a bitter outcast for being a Trekkie and I have no problem calling it like I see it.
This was not a Star Trek movie.
Go see it anyhow.

Okey, I'mma 'bout to write "Dr. McCoy's Diverse Hominid Species Sex Manual"--kinna like Zogg's Sex Wax crossed with "Everything I Wanted To Know About Sex, But Wast Too Afraid To Ask" crossed with the "Kama Sutra"...
I'm taking every Trekkie's input... Especially, the "Astrobiology Holodeck Physician's Corp"
So back to the New Spock & Uhura... Apparently, in the Ol Skool show, Spock played his lyre with Uhura singing some jazzy song. The lyrics were like this:
Quote:
On the starship Enterprise
There’s someone who’s in Satan’s guise
Whose devil ears and devil eyes
Could rip your heart from you!
At first his look will hypnotize
His alien love will victimize
And rip your heart from you!
|
Anyhow, the hubby and I got into this heated argument about the "new" Star Trek saying that when Uhura argued with the New Spock about why she didn't get assigned to the Enterprise... My husband said the New Spock was hittin' the twizad! I say, he hadn't hit it yet... So who's right?
His assumption was based on the "elevator scene" and what Uhura said when the New Spock pimped out...
I say, he was about to or already did it when Kirk and the New Spock were being sent on the away team...
What say you?
So would the New Spock spunk be green?

I think they were already doing it....hence the quick assignment switch the the Enterprise.....
I do like that twist though!

I dunno??? He knew her and he taught her, but the Spock character has always been "ethical" so it would not seem to me he breached that possibility. That does not go to say he DID NOT want to tap that azz... But he held restraint...
Uhura going off on him before being allowed to board the Enterprise is either
- a "quit your yapping thing" (which I think it is)
- or the New Spock had tapped it and couldn't deal with Nokia ship to ship nuisance messages (which I don't favor)...
And When did Starfleet Academy breach this "no fraternizing clause" with superior officers, etc... That's what confused me.
Cause there was too much breaching goin' on in that Star Trek movie!!! I'll havta see it again...

I had no idea until I read this that he was in that movie. I was trying to rack my brain to figure out where I had seen "Uhura" in a movie before watching Star Trek. (Yes, I figured it out. Thank you imdb.com.)
