Help! How do you get 49 steps? I've done the math several times, and I keep coming up with 48. I'm so confused

The answer to this one is 0, Moses didn't take any animals on the Ark. Noah did!

A **** in his mouth. (That's the answers in my neck of the woods!)
My new favorite joke

And a few riddles:
1.In a large western city, 80% of the phone numbers are listed, 20% of the phone numbers are businesses, and 20% of the phone numbers start with the numeral "2". If you were to take a random sample of 1000 phone numbers from the city's phone book, how many numbers would you expect to be unlisted, non-business phone numbers that start with a numeral other than "2"?

2.How many legs does an elephant have if you count his trunk as a leg?

3.A man left home running. He ran a ways and then turned left, ran the same distance and turned left again, ran the same distance and turned left again. When he got home there were two masked men. Who were they?

4.There was an airplane crash, every single person died, but two people survived. How is this possible?

5.The peacock is a bird that does not lay eggs. How do they get baby peacocks?

6. Before Mt. Everest was discovered, what was the highest mountain in the world?

i got it after the hint. the "middle step" tells you it's an odd number. even numbers don't have a middle

the bird sings on step 33 (btw, the middle step is 25 (33 - 8))

he walks down 12 steps and picks up a pebble
33 - 12 = 21

He takes one step up and tosses the pebble over his left shoulder
21 + 1 = 22

Now, he walks up the remaining steps three at a time which only takes him 9 paces

3 x 9 = 27; 27 + 22 = 49

For there to be a middle step there has to be an odd number of steps. So you're short just one. I made the same mistake at first
