hey, I don't really want to be "that guy" but isn't there already a competing org called Miss USA and that (mUSA) is affliated with Miss Universe?

So why do we need two? who cares?

It all stems from history. Miss America 1951 refused to pose for photos wearing a swimsuit. Catalina Swimwear, the pageant's sponsor, got a little bent out of shape about this, so they went on to create the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants.

I CARE. As a local and state MAO volunteer, I invest a lot of my time to contribute to a scholarship program that attracts the best and brightest young women in America. The Miss America Organization is the world's leading provider of scholarships for young women. EVERYONE gets a scholarship, no matter what, just for being there and participating. As for Miss USA/Universe, it's a "winner take all" situation. The runners-up leave with nothing.

So there's room for both Miss America and Miss USA. Deal.
