I think people are freaking out and deleting profiles. I've lost 2 friends in the last 2 days.

I don't know if people understand that they can just turn that "follow me everywhere" feature off...

He could have been sarcastic in that exchange. It sounded like he couldn't believe people would be that dumb as to give him info like that (and if they sent it a random on the web they deserved to have their stuff shared).

I just don't understand, if I read an article on say TMZ.com or somewhere, why I would be compelled to hit a Facebook "like" button at the bottom of it. Who cares? Will it get me a pony? Anyone who does that just seems unnaturally obsessed with Facebook in particular and disseminating their opinions in general.

For anyone interested in making sure everything you want private on facebook is private:
http://www.reclaimprivacy.org/
I played around with my privacy settings and re-ran the scan and it seems accurate. I found it via this article: http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives...h_reclaimp.php on the "Librarian By Day" facebook page, there are other articles on facebook and internet privacy in general.

The ALA hosted a "privacy week" last week and their site has some stuff on facebook and other internet privacy.

One of my FB friends did that today as well - so did his wife.

maybe a confirmation that Facebook really is sharing your personal info would cause an increase.

They changed the privacy settings again within the last 2 weeks. I just updated mine when I heard about the check mark in the box thing. You can now hide fan pages.

Yes. I just did it this morning. You can also make your education and work private again.

I have about half a dozen people on GC as facebook friends, so far. Tonight, out of boredom I'm visiting many profiles on my friends list, including GC peeps. The little box that says "friends" with the six thumbnail pics...I see 4-6 pics of people that I know from GC, WHO I HAVE NOT ADDED AS FRIENDS YET. I'm not crazy, I still remember the names and faces of many GC members from past threads, livejournal, the yahoo GC photo album.

Creepy!

I'm not surprised. I've noticed now that anytime I go to Pandora to listen to music, it now tells me which FaceBook friend likes particular song or artist.

Not sure how this happened since I am not "friends"/"fan" of Pandora on FB and Ive NEVER click any of there 'like' ads or anything.

FB was doing weird things this weekend apparently - one of my friends said that NONE of her friends were showing up.
