Dream Girl is my favorite too (obviously--i.e. my signature) and I sing it to my baby as a lullaby. I also sing her the one that goes "Out of my window, looking at the night / I can see your anchors shining bright / Swiftly flows the river to the sea / And your anchors do go silently / D G, I would like to go with you / I would like to sail the ocean blue..." She loves both of them!

I think the problem that most people are having is confusing the DG songs that are used for all the rituals with the chants (even the chants that are sung to a tune) from recruitment. That's why some people are like "I've never heard of that song..."

Also, I'm not sure if the song that Delta Iota sings for Senior Installation is a chapter thing, or if everyone uses the same one...but if there's a DG from UGA reading this, could you post the lyrics? I love that song and I tear up every time I hear it, but I can't remember the words.

"When You Go Away to College" Is probably my favorite DG song. During my last collegiate year there were a few of us (myself included) that couldn't get through it without tearing up.

We have a small group (a triple trio) that sings O' Captain. Is anyone else familiar with that song? It's probably my favorite to sing.

i was speaking with an alumna from another chapter and they sing a different table grace....I thought "Lord now the board" was the only one...what are the lyrics to the other?

Gracious Lord
We ask thy blessing
On thy bounty which we share
May Delta Gamma live forever
'Neath thy guidance and they care.

We sang that, standing behind our chairs, before we sat down to dinner (I'm tearing up, remembering those great days).
I believe it and others are in the DG Songbook, available from EO.

sorry to crash.

I've had it stuck in my head forever...
On my campus (U of Tulsa) they'd sing something that went: "DG, DG, Sweeter then a honeybee, DG to the bone"

There was a whole song, but that's all I remember... Sorry.

Found this at the DG web site. Don't know the tune...sounds like a cute song, though.
Anchor of Gold
She wears an anchor of gold
And we are told, she's a DG to the bone
If you see that girl walking down the street
You can't leave that girl alone
She's got eyes like a jewel, teeth like a pearl
Gosh, oh gee, she's a gift to this world
She wears an anchor of gold
And we are told, she's a DG to the bone

Delta Gee we love you, Delta Gee
First day of rush you go to all the houses
Second day of rush you're back where ours is
Delta Gee we love you, Delta Gee
We'll take Delta Gee, you know we love you Delta Gee

DG, DG, Sweeter than a honey bee
Dg to the boney, bone, bone
When you see her walking down the street
You better leave her a-lone
She'd got eyes like stars,
Teeth like pearls
She's much cuter than the other girls
DG, DG Sweeter than a honey bee
DG to the bone

I remember using the "train song" for senior installation... was there another one y'all used after I graduated?

I love "Will You Wear Our Anchor," which we used to sing at prefs. I know a lot of girls didn't like it, though.

I loved Will You Wear Our Anchor. I pretty much liked all the songs, though there were a couple I wasn't as crazy about as others. The one they sang at installation was, I've since discovered, Now and Forever by Carole King. Here are the lyrics if you're curious:
Now and Forever
You were a part of me
And the memory cuts like a knife
Didn't we find the ecstasy
Didn't we share the daylight
When you walked into my life
Now and forever I will remember
All the promises still unbroken
And think about all the words between us
The never needed to be spoken

We had a moment
Just one moment
That will last beyong a dream, beyond a lifetime
We are the lucky ones
Some people never get to do
All we got to do
Now and forever
I will always think of you

Didn't we come together
Didn't we live together
Didn't we cry together
Didn't we play together
Didn't we love together
And together we lit up the world

I miss the tears
I miss the laughter
I miss the day we met and all that followed after
Sometimes I wish I could always be with you
The way we used to do
Now and forever
I will always think of you
Now and forever
I will always be with you

We sang that at prefs, too.

Ladies, at convention last year your chapter and alumni presidents were given CDs full of DG songs.

This is also from League of Their Own. We started using it while I was there! Glad people like it - it took some persuading to get people on board for adding it at prefs.

The chapter I was advising started using Now and Forever during their pref ceremony five years ago. Anyone else start using it because of the CDC Jenny Levering?

One small change though, the chapter I advised switched out the word "daylight" for "sisterhood". ("Didn't we share the sisterhood?") Seemed appropriate.

My chapter at Duke used to sing the Dona Nobis Pachem song (DG and the Anchor). We sang it in a three part round, which was beautiful and perfect for prefs or rituals when you need songs to last for a while!

for recruitment we sang a lot of anchor in your eye and will you wear our anchor (that's probably my favorite one!)...and for rituals i remember singing will your wear our anchor and hmm my sister (i don't know if anyone else knows this...i'm from the eta chapter at the university of akron and there's a reference to akron in the song)...here are the lyrics just for kicks! lol

Hmm hmm, my sister
Hmm hmm, my sister
Couldn't get along without ya now
Got along without you before I met you
But I sure couldn't do it now

I came to Akron-U to find
The girls that really were my kind
And now I know I found the best
Because Dee Gee's are better than all the rest

there's another verse but no one really knows it so we just repeat that. =)
