BANGKOK – Authorities at Bangkok's international airport found a baby tiger cub that had been drugged and hidden alongside a stuffed toy tiger in the suitcase of a woman flying from Thailand to Iran, an official and a wildlife protection group said Friday.

The woman, a Thai national, had checked in for her flight and her overweight bag was sent for an X-ray which showed what appeared to be a live animal inside, according to TRAFFIC, a wildlife trade monitoring group.

The woman was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport before boarding her Sunday flight. The cub, estimated to be about 3 months old, was sent to a wildlife conservation center in Bangkok.

^^ glad they caught her and that the cub's ok. Going to a private collector would probably have been his "best" outcome had she succeeded.

This doesn't qualify as weird, but maybe stupid? It could happen to anyone though if they're not careful. It's another Facebook warning.

Word to the wise, folks: If you’re planning on inviting a small circle of your pals to a party at your place, make sure to uncheck the little box next to the "anyone can view and RSVP" setting before clicking the "Create Event" button.

Maggie Haberman at Politico today dug up a virulently racist essay written by Republican Jim Russell, who is challenging Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) -- and who has been endorsed by the state Republican Party and the state Conservative Party, according to his website.

Russell is a perennial candidate for Congress in New York's 18th district, which includes most of Westchester County, north of the city. He got 32 percent of the vote in 2008. In the 2001 essay (.pdf) "The Western Contribution to World History," Russell wrote in opposition of interracial relationships -- and integration of schools -- and praised the anti-Semitic theories of T.S. Eliot. It appeared in the publication Occidental Quarterly.

While Russell is a longshot, the essay is significant because he seems to have the support of the state Republican establishment -- though it's not clear whether the party previously knew about the essay.
Quote:
“It has been demonstrated that finches raised by foster parents of a different species of finch will later exhibit a lifelong sexual attraction toward the alien species. One wonders how a child’s sexual imprinting mechanism is affected by forcible racial integration and near continual exposure to media stimuli promoting interracial contact. The most serious implication of human sexual imprinting for our genetic future is that it would establish the destructiveness of school integration, especially in the middle and high-school years. One can only wonder to what degree the advocates of school integration, such as former NAACP attorney Jack Greenberg, were conscious of this scientific concept. It also compounds the culpability of media moguls who deliberately popularize miscegenation in films directed toward adolescents and pre-adolescents. In the midst of this onslaught against our youth, parents need to be reminded that they have a natural obligation, as essential as providing food and shelter, to instill in their children an acceptance of appropriate ethnic boundaries for socialization and for marriage.

This guy needs to take a walk through my children's preschool...I would say that probably half of the children, including my own, are bi-racial and they are beautiful, intelligent children who could win anyone's heart.

But their parents were obviously finches, or something idiotic. Odds are he wouldn't be convinced. He wrote for the Occidental Quarterly, which is basically a pro-white publication (or ProWestern*). And this was in 2001, not like he wrote it 40 years ago and changed his mind (or pretended to.) Some days I want to burn people with fire.

On the news they said police arrested some guy who was behind $500,000 in child support. He has 23 kids from 14 different women.

Cambridge needs to pick a parking ticket style and stick to it. These yoga moves aren't going to help reduce stress, but if they change styles just for special occassions, what is to stop people from printing fake tickets?

I haven't read his full essay yet, but I'm going to go ahead and assume that that quote isn't "taken out of context" because I see no way that it is not racist.

I suppose he would be highly offended by my obsession with extremely-hot-Old-Spice-Guy .

Well the site pulled the full essay, no idea if it's still showing up via my link. But yeah, basically there's no context that saves it. Also he complained about Save the Last Dance and O being pro-race-mixing. I think he also hates Julia Stiles.

Whatever, Isiah Mustafa is still the man of my dreams. Some people like this truly do not realize that what they say is offensive. It's baffling.
