I wear a lot of skirts. Especially casual ones for the summer. I hate wearing shorts, and as a plus sized woman, I find shorts look horrible on me. The only time I'll wear a pair of shorts is at a cottage or cleaning up around the house.

Awhile ago on Oprah they had the British "What Not to Wear" women on the show and they said that shorts and capris are not flattering on anyone (evidently Oprah got rid of all her capris after this).... so they're not just unflattering on plus sized women, they're bad for all of us

I wear a lot of flowing peasant skirts. Kinda like below. However, I'm almost 6 ft tall, so long skirts on me are very different from an average height or petite woman.

Shorter skirts for me would be more like this.

Those are much different (and cuter) than I was envisioning!

I love the black and white one above! I couldn't pull off those shoes, but I *wish* I could.

I also wear a lot of skirts. Just below the knee are best for me.

(the rhyme was accidental)

Wait! I lied! I do have one longer-than-knee-length skirt, and it's the most gorgeous thing EVAR.

ETA: I do not, however, like the shoes in the picture.

I always think long skirts look best on really petite people or really tall people. I'm in the middle and I just don't love them on me although there's one at Ann Taylor Loft on clearance that I'm thinking about getting.

I wear knee-length skirts ALL THE TIME - almost every day in the summer.

Those skirts are so cute.

And there are many ankle-length A-line or prairie/broomstick skirts that are very pretty and flattering.

I'm also kind of in the middle (5'6"), and I've found that for me skirts have to be either above knee length or long. Knee-length skirts look frumpy on my body. I thought it had to do with my height, but maybe there are other factors involved in this ...

Seriously, I don't get that either really. The fashion advice someone is going to give me from when they were 20 years old back in 1967, well...that wouldn't really help so much now would it? And if you are a woman who is in her 50's (like my mother, whom I adore more than anything but totally diff. tastes in clothing) I am probably not going to want to hear your fashion choices because they're totally different. The things my mom wears when she goes out with her friends, work functions, social things like the opera, fundraising events, etc. are always stylish and fabulous...FOR HER. She is 54. I am 23. We should not be wearing the same types of outfits.

Start a new thread about dresscodes for 30-somethings, 40-somethings, or 50-somethings (perhaps blueangel's fashion choices will go over better in that thread?).

And with that long rambly post I'm off to bed!

Who is not in their twenties? I guess I don't pay close enough attention to details, b/c I really have no idea ...

Sorry, dude. I thought I was exempt because I have good fashion sense.

If you've lived (and therefore dressed) through your twenties, that has to count for something, right? I would assume that someone who is older than their twenties probably has a better idea of what's appropriate than me, who is just starting mine ... which is why I take my older friends, my mother, and other such people with me on shopping trips for my "adult" clothing so I don't look like an idiot at interviews.

Being outside of 20-something doesn't mean that you might not have a good eye for what looks good on a 20-something person. Afterall, many of the designers of these fashions are probably a lot older than 20ish!!!
