The Annual C.A.R.E. Walk is Thursday, September 26. Pnm13, thank you so much for catching that typo! As everyone knows Mary Poppins may be exceptional but is only "practically perfect."

It's that time where Advisors and other involved Alumnae go into lurker phase until October 6. If some aspect of important information changes, and I know it, I will be back to update that information only, not respond to queries. PNMs please do not contact me directly until after October 6.
Last words of information (for now) for PNMs: 1) Upperclassman quota is suspended this year, I'll let the RFM expert explain how that works because I am not an RFM expert; 2) If a PNM signs the MRABA after listing her Preference Round Chapters, she is bound by one year to any bid (Chapter PNM matches) and will not be eligible for the Alpha Delta Pi Colony until Fall 2014.
For the good of the order: Alumnae, please be courteous to PNMs and be sure you are offering accurate information. If you have second thoughts about something you are about to say, or have to say "well, this is how we used to do it at this other place," and so on, don't pontificate but ask the question in the thread, so that the folks that do know can answer. As always I and other Ole Miss Alumnae will not be far.
Best wishes to every Chapter and every PNM!

I don't know but that's an excellent question. I would assume so but then, you know what happens when one assumes.

Advisors/Alum influence at Ole miss
How much of an impact on bid lists do sorority advisors and alumnae have on bid lists? How do they get to know the girls?

Sorry, but that really delves into membership selection more than most of us are going to answer. Let's just say that it varies.

Sorority alumnae do not live in bubbles and come out only at rush They are teachers, advisors, active in their communities and churches. They are parents who know their daughters' friends. They have friends with daughters. There are many, many ways that sorority alumnae get to know PNMs. We are everywhere!!!

Newtoolemiss: My daughter is a freshman PNM this year, and we are new to Ole Miss as well. From what I have been led to believe, from several alumnae advisors, it that they do in fact have a little pull in deciding who gets a bid, but even more pull in deciding who does NOTget a bid. A negative recommendation is the kiss of death.
My daughter has been advised by more than one alumnae from several different sororities. They all say the same things.
I also know that these same alumnae stalk my daughter on Facebook, twitter and instagram. We see them "liking" and commenting on posts almost everyday. I have heard them tell my daughter to stay away from so and so, and also to hang out with so and so. These ladies all took the time over the summer to meet with my daughter for lunch or dinner. I would say the advisors took the time to seriously get to know my daughter, probably better than any of the active girls in the houses.
While the active girls actually get the final say so, the top sororities listen very closely to their advisors.
At least this is what we are being led to believe from active alumnae advisors who all attended Ole Miss. I can't believe so many ladies would all be saying the same things if things were different.
On another note: We moved my daughter into the dorms last week and all I can say is WOW! Each and every girl we met was beautiful and polished. From the so called top sororities to the so called bottom sororities, they will all get an amazing pledge class this year!

I can't speak for other sororities other than my own, and we don't have a chapter at Ole Miss, but alumnae have no involvement in membership selection in Gamma Phi Beta, other than writing recs. Membership selection is the responsibility of the collegiate members, and alumnae and advisors do not influence this process beyond providing rec forms.
Judging by many rec forms I've seen, I think this is generally true for most NPC groups. The forms tend to be pretty clear that the alumna rec writer shouldn't expect any information during recruitment, shouldn't contact the chapter to give added input or attempt to influence the process, shouldn't expect to be told what happened to the PNM during the process, etc.

Ladies,
The involvement of alumnae in membership selection is part of membership selection. This is an area we do not discuss on this board. We need to stop this discussion now. Thank you.

Those favored few chapters will not be likely to ever participate in COB or Spring Informal recruitment as they push their fourth and fifth year members out the door to make room for the next class. Those same favored chapters are very reluctant to take sophomores, so dropping out and re-rushing next year is unlikely to make a difference for a choosy PNM.
The rest of the PNMs need to keep an open mind if they want the Greek experience. Everyday, when the PNM gets her invitations back, the chapters that invited her are the ONLY ones on that campus for that PNM. A chapter has indicated an interest in getting to know that PNM better, and she should be very grateful. Sadly not everyone can be an Ole Miss Greek, but keeping an open mind makes it a possibility. Every PNM class is nearly big enough at Ole Miss to change the entire personality of a chapter. So, if you don't like what you see now, stick around and "Be The Change You Want To See."
Best Wishes and Good Luck To All the Ole Miss PNMs!

This is quite possibly the best advice I have ever seen for a PNM at Ole Miss, or anywhere else for that matter.
When my daughter was a PNM at Ole Miss last year, these were points that we emphasized. She LOVES her GLO, but still concedes that recruitment was very stressful. PNMs would be very wise to heed this sage advice.
Have a great recruitment!

OK, folks. Methinks we've beaten poor Ole Miss, their sororities and their alumnae to a fare thee well. Who's involved in their membership selection, or anyone's for that matter, and when any bid list is done really isn't any of our business here on GC. Let's move on before the thread gets shut down. It would behoove us all to be reasonable.
Thanks (notice very slight flounce as I take my leave)
