My daughter is planning to major or minor in French, so she's thinking French food. I'm thinking petit fours. That's all I've got so far. Maybe Virginia ham? What else do they eat in Virginia???

Together? The only person I know who eats grits is my Dad. Time to "southernize"!

Washington and Lee. Sweet tea and peanuts I can do. Good ideas! We just looked up some shrimp and grits recipes and I don't think that would "sit out" well on a buffet.
I need to stop hijacking Girlie AGDee's thread!

Yes, together. If they ship, you can also have a couple of bottles of wine from the Rockbridge Vineyard for the grownup guests.

Virginia (although these can be popular in all southern states) style foods: Sweet tea, definitely. Barbecue (pulled pork with a vinegar based North Carolina style sauce). Macaroni and cheese. Grits (with or without shrimp). Biscuits and thinly sliced Virginia ham. Red velvet cake. Steamed crabs or crabcakes with Old Bay seasoning. She-crab soup. Cheese straws. Sweet potato casserole. There are a number of good Virginia wines for the over 21 crowd.

Don't be silly You can hijack all you want! I'm glad New York, New York is an easy theme! And the last song on her graduation DVD/picture slide show will clearly be...
"If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere, it's up to you, New York, New York"

Aaahhh...graduation DVD/picture slide show!?! At least I can hand off this task to my husband. He does a fabulous one for his "graduating " fifth graders every year. He's going to LOVE it when I tell him he needs to do one for our daughter!
These are some great recipe/food ideas, everyone!! Thanks so much!!!

Brilliant idea...tell her you're only thinking of her. If you get the job, she would probably get a tuition discount.

Seriously...I'm sure you would get a dependent tuition discount!
And, as Information Security Director, you'd be in the perfect position to spy on your daughter! That's taking helicopter parenting to an entirely new level!
