WIFLSRN: I took today off from work, but I still worked, getting things together for my daughter’s party tomorrow. I know I’ll be pulling my hair out halfway through it though. Too many kids running around, lol.

I like these. I’ll try these out. Thanks, AGDee.

But the odor will find you. Just sayin…

Lmao! True. That’s another reason I don’t like the poisons. The smell is beyond foul after they die. Can’t find them either. They’ll be somewhere in a vent stinkin.

Your husband probably killed Charlotte. Dude waited until you were sound asleep, got up, put some bug and spider spray on a Qtip, then rubbed it on Charlotte’s nose. She went to spider heaven the next day. The spray bottle said “For Big Hairy Ass Spiders. Works Fast!” on the label. Lmao!!!!
What the hell kind of care does a damn scorpion need, CG? You can’t love on a scorpion without getting effed up. For real.

Spiders don’t have noses like we do. Nice try, though. And just for that, you’re going to come back reincarnated as a Mexican red knee tarantula, and someone is going to do that to you.

Depends on the species. Like, for example, I had a client who came in with a sick scorpion. All he needed was a dry tank. It was a Flat Rock scorpion, and too much humidity is really bad for these scorpions. If its enclosure gets too humid for a long time, and the humidity is like 70%-80% for several days, weeks, or even longer, real health issues can show up — like mycosis, and mites, which only causes stress for the scorpion. Parasites do infect scorpions, too, just like any other pet.

Some, possibly most, Facebook crawler bots are used for malware scanning of links that are shared on Facebook/Meta websites. Sort of like an anti-virus scanner for links that are shared. That helps Facebook defend against people accidentally sharing links with malware and/or bots on Facebook sharing those types of links or even hijacked legit accounts doing it.
These are actually good bots to have as it indicates people are sharing GC links on Facebook/Instagram/etc.
Facebook is also big into AI as well, so they might be scraping content for those purposes.
Probably no search engine spiders / bots, though, as I don't think Facebook has a general web search engine. Those would also be good bots to have if they were competing in the search engine market, though.

I don't have the new software yet, but soon. The current / old forum software tech we use here is just a bit too inefficient when it comes to handling the longer discussion threads.

So even the good bots can slow things down?

Ohh, I see now. I was just thinking that what you posted below was the new software since it can do that kind of work automatically. Well, it’s sounds like it’s automatic.

Nope. They don’t have a nose. They breathe through book lungs on the underside of their body. They’re like similar to gills, and scorpions also have them.

I think the recent slowdown is sorted out for the most part now. The issue appears to have been a mix of bots & some very long threads that were not yet temporarily archived.

Good bots definitely can slow things down. Too many of them loading too many pages too quickly or even repeatedly loading pages which slow other things down (such as loading many individual pages of the very long threads which are temporarily archived now).
Even more people using the site can cause similar issues. If that was the case, though, it would be a good thing as long as I could scale the hosting setup fast enough to keep up with demand.
Googlebot, one of the good bots in my opinion, crawled over 12,000 pages on GC yesterday. That's a good thing beause it means more pages indexed in Google search which should eventually result in more people visiting the site.

Oh, I see how that might be taken as a good thing. What I described is quite inefficient, though. For example, the largest discussion thread on GC has 65,000 posts. Loading all 65,000 posts from the database, sorting them, and doing other stuff, before returning an individual page that only has 15 posts on it is what makes it inefficient. Would be more efficient to just load the 15 posts from the database that are needed.
I don't know how the software we will eventually switch to handles that, but my guess is that the content to load from the database will probably be more limited to what is needed for each page rather than loading the entire 65,000 posts. I've read that very long discussion threads do not impact that software the same way how it significantly slows down the software that we are currently using.

Well, that’s good news. How often does Googlebot do that? Often, or was it just something that was pretty recent?

I feel so dumb.
I was thinking it was the new software you were telling us about and that it automatically went through a bunch of posts on a thread and archived most of them away like you did with this thread. Computers are not my friends, lol. I have a laptop that’s like super slow, but it didn’t get that way until I added Norton antivirus. Now it takes like 10 minutes to load every time I turn it on or click on something. It’s either the Norton or me. I think it’s me.

We met at a small town a little west of Lansing- Portland. We met at a park called Two Rivers park. We walked along a trail there and talked and chatted, then walked to an Italian restaurant along one of the rivers and had dinner on the patio over looking the river. Then went back to the park and talked and walked and talked and walked. We're trying to figure out when we can see each other again.
Today, I made him a card and wrote in it- a kind of throw back to our early days when we were long distance and had to write letters as our main communication. I'm going to mail it tomorrow.
