crook caught due to WoW habit
Criminals can run, but they can't hide. Especially if they play World of Warcraft.
Just ask Alfred Hightower. Having successfully left the country to avoid being nabbed for dealing drugs, the fugitive figured he was home free. But thanks to his insistence on keeping up with his World of Warcraft habit, Hightower was tracked down by authorities and is now in custody, reports The Kokomo Perspective.
The saga begins in 2007, when Indiana's Howard County Sheriff's Department issued a warrant for Hightower's arrest on charges of dealing in multiple controlled substances. U.S. Marshals were unable to locate the suspect, although a tip placed him in Canada.
According to Howard County deputy Matt Roberson, authorities came upon the Warcraft connection during their investigation into Hightower's background.
“We received information that this guy was a regular player of an online game, which was referred to as ‘some warlock and witches’ game,” he told The Perspective. “None of that information was sound enough to pursue on its own, but putting everything we had together gave me enough evidence to send a subpoena to Blizzard Entertainment. I knew exactly what he was playing — World of Warcraft. I used to play it. It’s one of the largest online games in the world.”
Blizzard played ball, giving up Hightower's account history, IP address, screen name, billing address and preferred game server. One Google Earth search later, and Canadian authorities had apprehended Hightower in Ottowa, Ontario.
“You hear stories about you can’t get someone through the Internet,” said Roberson. “Guess what??You can. I just did. Here you are, playing World of Warcraft, and you never know who you’re playing with.”

Man electrocuted by urinating on power line
This guy survived crashing into the power pole but nature's call got him. Heard this on the news last night and thought it was a joke at first. But... it's not.
MONTESANO, Wash. –
An Elma man was killed by accidentally urinating on a downed power line after a one-car crash near Montesano.
Grays Harbor County sheriff's Deputy Dave Pimentel said Monday that 50-year-old Roy Messenger was not seriously hurt after he collided with a power pole Friday night and called a relative to pull his car out of the ditch.
When family members arrived they found Messenger electrocuted. Pimentel says Messenger apparently urinated into a roadside ditch but didn't see the live wire.
Pimentel says there will be an autopsy, but burn marks indicated the way the electricity traveled through the body.

[1995] Newsweek declared the Internet won't last
This article was passed on from a friend. It's from 1995 but it's funny to look at it 15 years later and laugh. Some highlights:
Nicholas Negroponte, director of the MIT Media Lab, predicts that we’ll soon buy books and newspapers straight over the Intenet. Uh, sure.
Even if there were a trustworthy way to send money over the Internet–which there isn’t–the network is missing a most essential ingredient of capitalism: salespeople.

Way to FAIL Newsweek.

Tiger IPhone Application
Does it count if I heard it yesterday?
I find it sad that in this day and age, people are "helping" others cheat on spouses. IPhone has released a new application, which they swear was named before the whole Tiger Woods scandal, to help people cheat on their spouses. Apparently the application erases messages and voicemails in as soon as a minute after receiving it. They make it hard for you to trace your spouse's love interests.
It's pretty sad, in my eyes. I'm sure some people will get a kick out of it, though.

Man 'chopped his virgin wife's head off because she refused to have children' Read m
A postal inspector went on trial in France today accused of chopping his wife’s head off because she refused to have children.
Philippe Cousin, 53, said he suffered a ‘mid life crisis’ when he approached his half century without a son or daughter.
He blamed it on his 47-year-old wife, Nicole, who was still a virgin despite having been married to him for more than 21 years.

Philippe Cousin has confessed to killing his wife of 21 years after she refused to have children with him
On April 16th 2007, Cousin telephoned his local police station in Arras, northern France, and told an officer: ‘Excuse me for disturbing you, I’ve killed my wife.’
In a fit of rage following a domestic argument, he had taken a kitchen knife to her neck before slicing her head off.
This morning he appeared before a judge at the Pas-de-Calais assizes at Saint-Omer, near Calais, facing life in prison for murder.
He denies the charge, pleading diminished responsibility, but faces life in prison.
The court heard how Cousins also told police: ‘I’m sorry for the work which I’ ve given you.
'My wife shouted my name out, I decapitated her. You realise that, and I’m not mad!’
While on remand he said his wife’s inability to have children lay at the heart of the couple’s domestic difficulties.
She feared that she would pass on her father’s multiple sclerosis through his genes, the court heard.
This meant that every time he tried to have sex he was rebuffed. An autopsy confirmed that Mrs Cousins was indeed a virgin when she died, even though she married aged 21.
