Greeks in your workplace

Just learned that one of my colleagues is a Pi Kappa Phi.

We're looking to hire a new assistant so we have lots of applications with college activities on them. My boss was over here looking through resumes and proclaimed, "I don't like Gamma Phi Betas!!!" He's obviously not holding it against her because we're interviewing her, but I thought his proclamation was kinda funny.

Interesting. That's one of the reasons I recommend not listing a sorority by name on a resume. I used to do a lot of resume counseling, and you just never know when someone's ex sister-in-law might be an XYZ, and the hiring official just hates them right now. I recommend listing the leadership positions, but simply saying "... for my sorority chapter of xx members." Ditto for fraternities, and things like Young Democrats or Young Republicans. No need to have a hiring official toss the resume before you get a chance to meet face-to-face.

And to be on topic, one of my nurses during my last two hospital stays is an Alpha Chi Omega.

The head honcho at my company is a Phi Delt.

My immediate supervisor is an AOPi.

A coworker is a Kappa; a former colleague, still a good friend, is a Pi Phi.

Our IT guy/webmaster is a Sinfonian.

I carry my SAI/PSP letter bag to school every single day and have never gotten a hit. Not even a "oh, I'm in a sorority, too". I still, will wear shirts/polos on dress down days and the kids notice the sorority before anyone else.

I'm fairly certain a teacher I work with is a Delta. I had to give a test in her room last semester and there as a DST horn in the room.

I have no doubts that what you mentioned actually happens. Luckily my boss is smart and looked passed her Greek affiliation and paid attention to her relevant work history. We will be interviewing her this week. It's a shame that not all employers can do the same.

None of my coworkers at the place I work part-time are Greek, but we do get a lot of customers who are.

There have been some kind of awkward recognitions - for example, once a guy in a fraternity that I had a class with came in while I was working, and he was like "...wait... you work HERE??" I guess I can sort of understand his surprise, since there aren't a whole lot of girls who work at video game stores in the first place, let alone Greek girls who work at them.

None of my coworkers at the other place I've worked were Greek either, but that's a little more understandable as Greek life and the student paper on my campus have a rather iffy relationship.

My boss is a Kappa Delta from Morehead State! I've worked here for three years and just now finding out!

My boss from senior year of HS was a Delta Zeta. A friend of mine who switched departments, like, 5 times during my senior year was a DG (and also my recommender). She and I also took a class together, and one of our classmates was a Kappa and our teacher was a KD.

The family I babysat for this weekend is very Greek! The mom is a Gamma Phi Beta, the dad a Pi Lambda Phi, and the wife's brother is a Pi Lambda Phi as well-- all from Penn State!

The wife's brother asked what sorority I'm in, and I said Tri Sigma and he said that they used to do a lot of things together when he was in school (late 90's) to which I replied that we still do, that we just did homecoming together last year! What a small world, I love being Greek.

Not sure about anyone else though. I'm an AEPi pledge at the moment as well.

Updating with the Greeks I know about in my office...half the people I listed before no longer work there!:

3 AXiDs, including me, 1 APhi, 1 DZ, 1 Acacia, 1 SDT, 1 Phi Psi, 1 DKE, 1 SAE...and just found out my new sup is a Purdue Phi Mu alum!

I work at the NFL Network:
My direct Manager is a Sigma Chi.
Editor of nfl.com is a Lambda Chi Alpha.
My chapter ... (look at username).
Rich Eisen (anchor) is a Pi Kappa Phi.
Melissa Stark (reporter/anchor) is a Kappa Alpha Theta.
Alex Flannagan (reporter) is a Gamma Phi Beta.
Kurt Warner (studio host) is a member of the Acacia fraternity.

Since the majority of our employees went to college and the national average is roughly 15% (APPROXIMATELY -- that's the last stat I heard) of college students are in GLOs, I'm sure I work with many more.

By wearing letters on workdays, I often find out about greek affiliations in my school.
-New Principal is a Phi Beta Sigma
-Chorus teacher is Phi Mu Alpha
-Allied Health Teacher is an Alpha Phi (I think she said from ECU)
-Foods teacher is a Delta Zeta
