Should the entire chapter be punished? No. Should the entire chapter, and for that matter, pretty much every chapter, be instilling better values in their membership? Yes. Every NPC group that I know of has some kind of chapter development, and yet we see this shit on a regular basis. Why isn't the lesson "don't be a racist asshole" as important as "develop good study skills" or "write a stand-out resume"?

NPC groups really have a unique opportunity to engage in extra-curricular education of our membership, and yet I don't know a single one that prioritizes social justice in any meaningful way.

I completely agree with you on this, DBB. One of my first thoughts when I saw this was that perhaps part of the ~consequences from either Chi Omega nationals or UA could be some sort of "cultural sensitivity"* workshop that the entire sisterhood would be required to participate in.

*If anyone has a better way to describe it, by all means please use it. I simply could not think of one at the moment on my own.

Organizations shouldn't use diversity/cultural sensitivity training or workshops as a "consequence". These workshops are pointless and "check off the checklist" enough without being officially considered a reprimand. If these GLOs truly care they will discuss these topics as part of chapter development, NM interaction, and it would be discussed informally without needing to be required to discuss (to further debunk the notion that whites don't think about and casually talk about race, ethnicity, and culture--their own and that of other groups).

Hoax or not, this is a lackluster incident not worthy of being called "racist" and not worthy of too much attention. Except as an excuse for pre-existing racial tension so people can claim "we were doing soooooooo well until this happened."

Poor choice in trying to cover up, as according to this celebrity gossip article I read today. Ninjas is sometimes used as an alternate for the N word. (Yes, I know I'm pathetic.) Seriously, though, is ninjas a substitute now? If you follow the (poor) logic of the commenter, did these women intend to call any recipients of a snap bid an alternate n word?

If you do a search for "sorority term ninja", there comes up on Yahoo the urban definition of sorority ninja which states "A girl that a sorority says to cut but then somehow ends up on the bid list. Basically sneaks into the sorority like a ninja would".

Also there apparently is some video game called Sorority Ninja.

I doubt that National would have jerked a pin over an innocuous "auto correct". Surely this particular devise could have and would have been tested.

So sad to read this about Chi Omega.

And the auto-correct explanation didn't pass the sniff test.

But this is plausible. And the explanation matches what is apparent regarding the mismatched size of the "g"s in the offensive word.

I guess one question is -- where is the original shot posted by the active on the active's snapchat?

As someone who works with photoshop on a regular (almost daily) basis, it would be very easy to distort those letters in photoshop to provide "proof". This "new" photoshop evidence is smells about as good as the autocorrect story.

My phone seems to autocorrect everything. Guess what? Ninja came out Ninja. Even a misspelled Ninja came out Ninja.

Not buying the explanation.

So my curiosity got the best of me. When it comes to texting, I am the worst. I misspell everything. My phone autocorrect Ninja with Nunn and Nine. I did not get anything else.

Just when things were looking good for Panhellenic race relations.

I feel bad for this chapter and the position this girl has put them in. It has had a stellar rep in the past.

Btw. Ninja is a term for a girl off the second or third bid list.
