Matte eyeshadows: Mary Kay has quite a nice selection in matte colors. After a "certain" age sparkle only makes you look like an aging drag queen. And Mary Kay...I know, I was shocked but I really love the colors and every month or so they post new looks on their website that are pretty easy to duplicate by ordinary mortals.

Your Mary Kay experience is really dependent on your salesperson. One of my best friends sells it and she doesn't pressure people AT ALL.
(counting down 5...4...3...for the Mary Kay thread to get bumped)
As far as professionally trained MAs or lack of same, we could get into the whole MAC/EL boycott of a few years ago if we really wanted to but I don't think we need to do that here.

I love eyeshadow and I have a few bases that have worked for me:
Benefit's "F.Y...Eye!" was awesome until they pulled it for some unknown reason. It was in a little pot that was easy to carry around. Now they have "Stay Don't Stray" which is in a little spray bottle. I really prefer FY...Eye.
At the MAC counter, the MA actually recommended using a concealer with eye cream as a good eyeshadow base. I'm not a fan of MAC's eye cream, so I use the Bliss "Youth As We Know It" eye cream instead. I dab a little bit of concealer on the back of my hand and add a small amount of eye cream--then I just apply it to my eyelids and let it dry.
Has anyone used the Make-Up Forever fake eyelashes? I have a white-tie ball this weekend and I've done the false lashes before. It looks great!

Bourjois has pretty much pulled out of the US.

Too Faced's Shadow Insurance is a good eye shadow base as well.

I love the Urban Decay primer potion but in the professional size. Its one of my splurges. You get twice as much in the pro size than you do in the little genie bottle.
