Tell me about it - the township we're in is pretty much the last bastion of ruralness in the area. We even struck down a proposal to build a Wawa few years back b/c of the traffic nightmare it might have created.

One of my pledge brothers depledged because he said he'd lost more friends than he'd gained by going Greek. Maybe not a dumb reason per se but IMO people who end friendships over your affiliations aren't particularly good friends to begin with.
Shame he dropped too, he was a cool guy.

I think I GOT cut from a house because I told the girl my Gucci bag was fake. (It was) I of course will never know the truth, but it did end up making a decision between 2 houses that was going to be tough very easy. So shallowness paid off for me!

I ended up pledging Sigma Kappa even though I hate snakes (we've since changed our symbol to the heart and dove), preferred three letters and didn't care for lavender and maroon together (love them separately!)

I actually didn't think the snake was a "symbol" the same way the heart and dove are. Obviously it's important to us and I love that some chapters still use it. But then, i love snakes

Yeah, its a K with a snake entwined in the shape of a sigma. It's just not an official mascot. I don't recall hearing anything that it ever was. Some chapters consider it their mascot over the dove, but Nationally speaking, our mascot is the dove.

That makes me think of Jen Lancaster's book "Pretty In Plaid." She talks about getting cut from a house because of her purse and wore a jean jacket. lol

I dropped a house due to their ice breaker activity. First off, they were the only chapter out of the 18 to have an ice breaker, so I thought it was very odd. We PNMs were each handed an oddly shaped piece of felt as we entered their foyer and were then escorted by our hostess into the dining room. We talked for a while and then the president called the room to attention and gave a short speech. She then invited us, one by one, to stand up, introduce ourselves, and come up to the front and place our puzzle piece ( the weirdly shaped piece of felt) on a big board. I understand now that the purpose was to illustrate how we could all fit together in that sorority, but at the time all I could think about was how uncomfortable I was feeling and how I did not want to participate. I told my hostess that I would rather not participate and she told me that I had no choice. Well, I did participate but I did not accept their invitation to the next round. I was not the only one who felt that way. This activity bombed for that chapter. Not a good idea to make PNMs part of your entertainment.

Forced rushee activities? Wow, what a terrible way for them to attract new members!
At MS State, I remember that one sorority got dinged by almost everyone the first day because they decided to call each other Sister Brown, Sister Jones, etc. We got word of this up in the office about halfway through open house parties and called to warn them. They assured us that they were creating an atmosphere of sisterhood and they'd be okay.
They weren't okay the next day.

At a different house my hostess was very shy and not much of a conversationalist-at all. I ended up taking the lead and just as I was getting her engaged in the conversation someone rang a bell and all the sisters switched. This happened over and over. The conversations would reach a sort of rhythm, that bell would ring, and the sisters would switch. It was the most awkward rotation idea I have ever experienced and it definitely did not work well for them. I dropped them because of it.
