The groom's cake has a lion to represent something we share (he is an SAE, so we share a particular affinity for lions) and is inscribed with The True Gentleman. If anyone is looking for someone to do their cakes in the DFW area, we highly recommend The Cake Guys (easy to work with, cake that was as delicious and moist at the wedding as it was at the tasting, and fab designers).

I love them both! I so wanted my DH to have a Groom's Cake but he was adamant about not having one. Silly guy!

Txpacer, both your cakes look terrific! Your wedding cake is so perfect it doesn't even look real(I mean that as a compliment).

Thanks honey and FSUZeta! DH wouldn't have been happy without a groom's cake (we both grew up in an area where it is a common practice).

Some of the linked cakes are really cute. There is one that I don't find redneck at all! It says: "sometimes the only way to catch an uncatchable woman is to offer her a wedding ring," which is a quote from Big Fish (an excellent movie, IMHO).

FWIW, I love, love, love the idea of several smaller wedding cakes. The sticker shock, however, almost put me in a coma...

I hear ya. Honestly, I'd just run to my local baker and grab something off the shelf but I know most people buying wedding cakes won't or can't do that. If I had to order something though, more than likely, it wouldn't be "bridal" looking and I wouldn't say it's for a wedding. That word alone will jack up the price.

We found a place that was very reasonable (esp when I heard that most places charge at least $10/slice!) - the cake ended up being the least expensive of wedding items! It wasn't exactly what I wanted (read: language communication problem), but it tasted wonderful!

That's what we did. Chocolate mud cake with chocolate buttercream filling, and chocolate icing - definitely didn't look like a wedding cake - but it was delicious.
