I would guess you'd want to talk to your doctor about that - could mean you're not on a high enough dose.

If you're usually good about taking your pill at the same time, but then in the 3rd week took one 4 hours late or something - that can do it too.

I'm not a big fan of Yasmin. Everything was cool up until it threw my period all off (like the problem you're having), and that was aside from the sore boobs and before the heart palpitations started. I never missed a pill, never took it early or late, so my doctor just chalked it up to "one of those things" and switched me. A lot of people love Yasmin, but it just wasn't right for me...you might be one of those people, too.

Question ladies -- I'm on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, and next month it would be preferable if I didn't have a cycle. I've heard of just starting the new pack after the last of the old pack and not taking the placebos, but does that really work? Besides changing my clockwork, are there any other effects?

I've done it before, not with Orthotriccylen, but with my current pill, and there's not a problem with it as long as you don't do it for months upon months from what my DR said.

I did it b/c otherwise, I would have had my period during my honeymoon. It worked fine & I was able to get back to my regular schedule afterwards. Just don't do it continuously.

My friend does this 3 months straight, then has one one month, then goes 3 months again but it's for medical reasons. (she has crohns and can't take meds for cramps) I do it once in a while if I go on vacation or just for the hell of it. I'm on Yasmin and the only thing I notice is that the next time I have a period it might last a day or two longer and I'll get annoying cramps but they're not bad.

I've heard that period skipping doesn't work as well if you're taking triphasic pills; supposedly, it works better with monophasic, where the pills are all the same. That said, it's probably worth a try and won't hurt you.

I think that's true. I tried to skip once when I was on OTC and it didn't really work. I've switched to a monophasic pill, I might try it again

I tried to take pills continuously the last time I went on them.....I would like to qualify this by saying I have never done real well with the Pill, but when I was really young I could take them with no problem other than slightly elevated blood pressure. Anyway this last time (which was about a year ago) I just skipped the placebos and kept on going with the actives.....it worked great...at first. I was period-free for about 6 weeks. But then I began to bleed and it didn't stop for over a month. Finally I gave up on it. I stopped bleeding about a week after I quit, and then it didn't take long for my normal cycle to kick back in.

My husband and I have used the old shotgun method ever since our younger child was born almost 6 years ago. I was on the pill briefly when he was about 2 and got pregnant on it (I miscarried.) Then I tried the pill again last year. The old shotgun method has worked fine for us, but then again we are 30 somethings with 2 kids for whom pregnancy is not desired but also would not be a disaster. So it's all very individual. I think I am going to have him neutered this year and not have to worry about it!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm moving away from ortho and onto seasonale.

i was on ortho tri cyclen to begin with, switched to ortho tri cyclen lo, and i decided i'm done with having a period 12 times a year. i'm going for 4. well, after the first year, i'll be going for every 4. although i'm hoping my body takes to this drug nicely.

I'm not on seasonale but I only have do the period 4x a yr routine. The one thing I will say is that you forget how much the whole PMS/Cramps/Periods package sucks and then when you finally hit the 4 months you wish you never had to deal with it!

Anyone use an IUD? My gyno suggested it today. It just sounded a bit risky. (Still have to research on my own.)

i heart seasonale. the summer has been much more enjoyable. i haven't had any problems with seasonale.

eta: no problems with craps or pms either.
