If you've ever worked with ICS in any capacity, you know that you're checking and re-checking like crazy before you make any sort of releases, invites, etc. No one running ICS at a school like Bama is that stupid.

That "entire top 200" thing is likely false and created by women dropped by Chi O in order to save face to their friend groups.

Other common myths across the country include:

"I was supposed to get a bid to XYZ but my friend told me that they accidentally cut the WRONG Sarah."

"I was supposed to get a bid to XYZ, but there was a glitch and all the girls who got XYZ invites ended up with DEF invites instead."

"I was supposed to get invited to XYZ, but they had too many girls, and had to cut someone, and my name started with A so I was at the top of the list.

These are all about as true as me being the Queen of England.

I have actually seen this happen once with pref invites. The situation was rectified at the last minute and no one was the wiser.

Even if it hadn't been caught, that information would never have made it outside of a very, very small group of people. If everyone knows about it, then you can bet that the source was a disappointed and embarrassed someone or someones.

Unless someone thought the cut list was the keep list, it is impossible. The likelihood that this would happen is astronomically small especially with the checks and balances that occur with collegiate members AND alumnae involved in the process. This sounds like an excuse for a PNM who thought she'd pledge XO to save face after being released.

"Of course, I would have been an XYZ if that computer glitch hadn't happened. All the top girls got cut and a bunch of randoms got our bids," said Suzie Sparkly-Snowflake. "That happened at my boyfriend's cousin's roommate's school three years ago," replied Becky Betterthanyou, nodding sagely.

it was on greekrank and yik yak both, so it's been around the rumor mill. I seriously doubt it, thinking about it, because this girl is a 5x legacy and went Chi O, so obviously she wouldn't have been dropped.

I think the "turned in the wrong list" rumor is a perennial favorite, occurring at a number of schools each year, along with rumors ofcertain chapters circling your fat, making you swallow goldfish, and getting an automatic 4.0 if your roommate dies during the semester.

Well, I know for sure sororities circle fat. My husband's cousin's dad's stepdaughter's best friend had that happen to her.

I was going to say the same thing but didn't want to take the thread even further off course. The closest to the Iowa/Illinois thing (50% of the freshman class every year) would be California and Arizona (or is it ASU?). Maybe someone should start calling it the UIIC (University of Illinois at Iowa City). But I still prefer The University of Iowa, Idaho City Ohio, since people are so easily confused

Surely chapters that are meeting 1000+ PNMs do mis-remember which Maddie was which sometimes.

Please don't comment on NPC membership selection as a non-NPC member. There are many systems in place to prevent these types of errors.

Errors on invitation lists do occur. At U of A, a chapter can catch and correct, but may be fined for the correction.

The yarn concerning the Chi Os accidentally dropping 200 girls, however, is just a silly rumor.

Yes, and so is every girl who didn't get the invite she wanted blaming it on an error. Of course no system is perfect, but the idea that a duplicate first name is enough to confuse the chapter underscores the point that Low D Sharp is NOT an NPC member and does not have sufficient knowledge of how PNM's are actually tracked in large recruitments. She has been repeatedly asked not to comment on NPC membership selection, and yet continues to do so.

I take it back. I will only observe that hospitals operate on the wrong patient sometimes despite the systems they have to prevent that.
