I was requested to share this story with my GC Sorors.

Well, when i got the news that while being lifted into a helicopter my aunt slid out of the emergency techs grip and fell back into the water, i gave the news to my DP (which was my best friend at the time) and left campus for a while. Well after the water descended and they were letting people in to New Orleans to look for their families, my mother and i went to find my aunt. Once there, my mother took me to the superdome, which at that moment i didnt understand, but i looked up and there was my chapter (everyone had on DST shirts. Sniff:Sniff)...Once i cried a bucket, we proceeded to look for my aunt. Later i found out that Christina (my DP) called my mother, got the information that was need, then called my chapter together...This is why i joined Delta Sigma Theta. When i was a freshman i saw some things, that i knew exemplified a true sisterhood. Truth be told if i didnt get the chance to meet the Delta that helped me through my freshman year (at orientation) i may not have survived UARK. Thank you Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for changing my life and showing me the other family i was born into.

457. 96 Years

458. Working with sorors sporting 'nalia on the 13th. One of my coworkers asked "Is this Delta week or something?" and another asked "Okay, what special Delta day is this?"

459. Committee meetings because they always turn into sisterhoods

460. The greater Houston chapters' joint Founders Day Celebration featuring...

461. Soror Gwendolyn E. Boyd. She is absolutely phenomenal--a real and living national treasure. Her bio gives me chills

462. Soror Boyd's message and the timeliness of it.

463. Delta Dears. I just love 'em.

464. Young sorors who are so impressionable. There was a young soror next to me crying during the rededication ceremony and it touched me.

465. The look of new sorors at their first Founders Day Celebration.

466. The soror moderator who will make this a sticky so it's not so hard to find.

467. For my Aunt Amy in many, many, many ways she epitomied spirit of Delta and the legacy of love to all in her heart and throughout her life. She was a initiated into DST at UCLA (Pi Chapter-1959) and before I ever knew her as a Delta and my Soror, I knew her as my Aunt Amy. Whenever I would be mad at my Momma or upset, I knew that I could always go to her and talk things out with her. Even when we were upset with each other, I could always go back and talk with her and we'd work everything out. She was always calling me her "Niecy Poo" and later in life, we became "Road Partners." When I became a Delta, she was the first to give me congrats and a big tail hug and it's something that I can still see to this day!

She was an educator/teacher/counselor to not just her family, but to many students that she encountered/encouraged among her years of teaching. Every student that ever had any interaction with Aunt Amy will tell stories of Ms. B. and they will tell them with a smile. She had a way of making you feel special, making you feel like you were working towards your goals, and leave you knowing that you were on you way. Aunt Amy taught so much to so many, but you always felt that she was in your corner and had your back.

She was also the boss in many ways. She was my second mom in charge and she would correct you in a HURRY! Growing up, her boys got it worse than us nieces and nephews, but don't get it twisted, she would get you too, in front of your Momma, and you'd find that your Momma was backing HER up not you! She could be gentle with her correction or she could let you know with a quickness, but either way, you learned your lesson!

For helping me in learning how to sew! I'd taken the home-ec class and was told by my teacher that I couldn't change the pattern to fit me. Aunt Amy with a quickness told me that I could do what I wanted to do to my pattern to make it fit me better. She would occassionally let me use her machine (no sewing with the pins in place) and would serge for me when I needed it. I will never forget the fact that my initation dress I had made was plain white. Aunt Amy must have known what it was for because I'd let her know that I was a Pyramid. She told me after I got through sewing, to let her "see" the dress so that she could serge it. When I got it back, she'd sewn embellishments onto my dress for me (and yes, I still have it, don't know if I can fit it). This was the type of woman that Aunt Amy was, and I miss her!

For being able to make you laugh and accepting my phone calls home! Aunt Amy was always there for me, and though she's not here anymore, she is and will always be the best Aunt/Soror/Friend to me.

(sorry it got a little long, the memories began flowing back)

Iota chapter is not at UCLA. It is an east coast citywide chapter.

At that time, that was all that the family could remember. In the mix of things going on, I didn't have the time to find out. She was only 62 and was the first of her sisters and brother to pass away. At the same time, my Grandfather was going into Alzheimer's and we were trying to make sure that he knew or could understand that he'd just lost his daughter so things were a bit confusing for us at the time. I couldn't find her card and Grand Chapter was taking some time in getting back to me. So if I offended, I am sorry I didn't mean too. I'd have to go back and do research to find the chapter that is/was at UCLA at the time of her initiation.
