Just a couple of "news items"

I got my newsletter today and my invite to Founders' Day on Oct.25. I'm really looking forward to it, because it is a BIG event, including alums and actives from around the area. It's a good chance to meet a lot more people.

My sponsor heard from the alum president. She does have my paper work. Here's the bottom line. The chapter is probably going to vote on me in Jan. and have me initiated with SMU's spring pledge class. Given the past history with ladies being initiated and then dropping out of sight, they are VERY cautious and are not in any hurry to make a decision until they are absolutely sure. She did say that they wanted me to continue to attend their events.

I have mixed emotions about this. I am sad that I will have to wait a little longer. On the other hand, I am glad that I feel I am still in the running. OK, I think I am all right about waiting until spring, because honestly the fall is the busiest time of year for me and I will have a lot more time after Christmas.

Hey, I have waited for a looooong time. I guess I can hang on a little longer.

I'm glad that things are still progressing and that you are planning on meeting some more women at Founders Day!

On a side note -- We just had the SMU admissions rep visit our school and she was just raving about their sorority houses there, so you'll have to share with us your experience.

Speaking of that, one of my seniors from last year is out at SMU and I am wondering if she went through recruitment... Hmmmm

Tinydancer -- I know you must feel a bit deflated now knowing there are still a few more months you'll have to wait, but you are right -- you have waited this long, so a few more months will not make a difference really...and what a great way to start the springtime!! I think it's great the chapter is seeing you and your enthusiasm at these events -- do not give up! Just think, once you are initiated, the pressure to keep 'proving' yourself will be gone and you can continue to participate on an equal footing!
I and all the others here on GC know you'll be a fantastic addition to that alum chapter...and to Gryffyndor too!

Just remember the OLD adage: PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF!

One other thing to remember that should make your wait more bearable...WE GC'ers HAVE TO WAIT TOO!!!

Until you are officially voted in by the alum chapter in January,
I am sure you will not let us know who Gryffyndor is, right? Or are you gonna make us wait till initiation ???

Wink

No, no, I won't make you wait until initiation...

Just as soon as I get "the bid" you'll hear me shouting it out!!

Hang in there....at least they are not flat out saying "no". Also, by hanging in there a few more months, you are establishing credibility that you won't be an initiate who drops off the face of the Earth, once she gets her pin. Rather, you are in it for the long haul.

Not too much longer... With the Holidays coming up, time will fly and January will be here before you know it. My fingers are crossed!

Talking Founders' Day

was celebrated today!! I met Gryffindors from several different area chapters. The ones I had met before were glad to see me. The brunch was wonderful and the silent auction was fun.

The best part was when the membership vp introduced me again as a prospective AI, and then announced "We will vote on Lizz in January and she will be initiated with the spring class." I just about fell out!! Soooo I'm thinking that this sounds really good!! She also reminded the members about AI and encouraged them to sponsor someone they thought would make an outstanding member.

When they did the ritual part of Founders' Day, I had to leave with the pledges, but several people said to me "This is the last time you will have to leave!!"

All in all, a very good day!

OKAY TINY....

...tell us what is going on in your AI search -- shouldn't something be happening now if a springtime initiation is planned? I know with Gamma Phi's AI program, you do have to plan for enough time to get the paperwork okayed up thru the chain of command and then there is the pledge training too...we want details!!!

Well, there's not anything new to report right now. Last I heard, they will be voting on me in Jan. and they said I would be initiated with the spring pledge class.

Yesterday they had a big open house, but I was not able to go. The wife of a close friend of mine passed away quite suddenly and the services were yesterday afternoon. It's very sad because they had only been married about 6 months. By the time I got home, it was really too late to get to Dallas before the open house would be over. I had emailed the membership vp and told her that it was in doubt if I could get there on time. I didn't want them to think I was not interested any longer. I know they will understand, under the circumstances.

In the meantime, I'm in rehearsal for "Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus" so that is taking up most of my time!!!

JANUARY NEWS!

HI TinyDancer,

Thought that you would get away with that post! Not so fast...

I just read your post on LM's thread about exciting happenings in January!! I hope that all goes well with the group that you are persuing! I am sure that whatever the group may be, they will be very fortunate to have such a wonderful person within their organization ( Trying NOT to jump the gun so to speak, I still don't know what the "news" is but I'm hoping that it is positive)
Please let us know how you are doing and what the holidays bring for you and your family! Good luck with the performanace! Sounds like a fun time!!!
