Posting this info. is also good for me as it helps me remember everything! (I'm already forgetting the sorority girls I talked to yesterday! Yikes!)
My first day of rush was truly a blast! I had expected to be a lot more nervous, but fortunately, I was thrown into my first party so fast I didn't have time to be anxious.
My first house was
Flamingo. Known as one of the top houses on campus, I had pretty high expectations. The first thing I observed was how incredibly beautiful the house and the girls were. I was initially creeped out by the hundreds of smiling faces and simultaneously snapping hands, but I have since grown to love it! I was met by one Flamingo at the door, who led me outside onto an incredible patio area, where I met another sister. I was glad to be outside so I could actually hear over the din of a million female voices! I spoke with my sister for most of the party, and was pleased with how easily everything flowed. However, I would sometimes feel like she wasn't really listening to what I was saying, as she would ask a question, laugh/nod at my comment and then ask another question. A third sister walked up, and the two of them walked me out to the door. On the way out, they seemed to be talking to each other a lot more than they were talking to me, which also bothered me. Overall, I enjoyed my time at Flamingo and I would like to go back, but I feel like I need to speak with the girls a lot more.
Next was
Fuschia. While I had enjoyed Flamingo, it was nothing like my experience at Fuschia! Again, both the house and the girls were mind-blowingly beautiful. I really made a connection with the Fuschia I was talking to- she was hilarious! Her humor was refreshing, as all the other girls I had just talked to were SOOOOO sweet, almost too sweet. I also felt like we talked about more than the normal surface stuff I discussed at every other house. The president came over midway through our conversation to introduce herself, which was exciting! When the party ended, the Fuschia sister and I both agreed that it had ended too soon! She gave me a hug when I left (no other chapters did that) and wished me good luck. I was so happy when I left the house knowing that I had experienced that "special something" you all talk about in your recruitment stories.
After a short break, we headed out to
Salmon. Unfortunately, this was the worst house of the night. I met three girls and honestly cannot remember a single sister's name as they switched them out so fast. My first sister led me by the hand into one of the sitting rooms, which I thought was a little weird. She was also shaking the whole time- I felt terrible that she was so nervous! Our conversation was somewhat awkward, as my Salmon would ask me a question, listen to my answer and then tie it back to her sorority so she could endorse the chapter to me. I completely understand the need for some bragging on your chapter, but sometimes these connections were completely unrelated and I didn't really know how to respond afterwards. When I started subconsciously looking for a clock in the room to indicate how much time I had left, I knew this house was not for me.
Our final house was
Cherry Blossom. This ended up being a fitting name, as the girls were very soft and sweet. I spoke with two girls, both of whom did a good job of balancing the actual conversation with talking about their chapter. I intuitively could tell that these girls were genuinely kind and warm people. Our conversation, which wasn't as good as my conversation at Fuschia, was a little bit awkward at times, but I still enjoyed talking to these girls. I loved the outfits they picked and their house felt so warm and cozy. Midway through the party, the sisters all got together and sang a song for us, which I though was cute. I definitely want to go back to this house!
Today is going to be crazy! I visit Coral, Bubblegum, Rose, Magenta, Ballet Slipper and Cerise. Wish me luck!
