Not only prenatal care and all that, but having to pay for an endometriosis surgery. I've been on the pill for severe cramping and now I may have endometriosis and my doctor said the pill is good for trying to regulate it and keep it to a minimum. I don't understand why insurance won't cover it for medical uses.

I have a couple packs of Yasmin that I never used sitting in the medicine cabinet. I have yet to get a straight answer as to how to get rid of them (don't want to flush them or just throw them away since they are hormones). They give me really horrible migraines.
And I would think that the pill would be a huge savings over endometrial surgery. I don't understand insurance companies sometimes.

SRSLY, if they can do it with all the makeup swapping, I don't know why not w/ BC pills. We did this all the time in school when people went off it.

I think it depends on your insurance company, or maybe it's state-by-state? When I started taking the Pill, it was for severe cramps (seriously, I would throw up the first day of each period). I had no problem getting it covered by the insurance. Now that I'm just taking it as no-baby candy, my insurance now covers it. In fact, the Pill has the cheapest co-pay of any of my prescriptions.

My packs just went up to $35...and I don't know why as there was supposed to be no change in our perscription plan. While $35/ month is less than paying for a child, I can't afford that much. I have tried taking generics and they definately make me feel awful.

The newest recommendation is to mix it with kitty litter and throw it out. I think the kitty litter step is more to make it less appealing for kids who might dumpster dive. I typically just throw them out. Just don't flush it, thats bad. There is a much lesser chance of the hormones making it into water via the landfill than when it gets flushed.

The real joke is, the insurances cover Viagra with no problem, but not birth control. It's still a man's world.

now THAT is a huge problem. insurance can pay for a 4 hour hard-on but not for my uterus and I to go through WW3 every month?

This is a myth for most insurance plans. The past three major insurance plans I've had (blue cross, blue shield, kaiser permanente/group health) specified that they do NOT cover ED meds. On the other hand, most DO cover oral contraceptives, at least generics. In fact, in this state insurance companies MUST cover bcp.

Yep. I am one of THOSE women. I have tried NUMEROUS oral conts. They ALL make me vomit as bad as when I had morning sickness. My doctor said to try one more thing (Nuva ring) before it was either use nothing or IUD. The Nuvaring is the best thing on the entire planet.
I tried it and was immediately hooked. It's all I'll use.
It is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still only get $5.00 off of it by the insurance company. But, I would rather pay for something that works well than take something inferior for me and my body and save money. $35.00 a month for not being pregnant again works for me! Lord knows we'd spend 100x that if we had another child.
