I was a founding member of my chapter and was told by the Executive Director of the fraternity that we do not have a national mascot. However, one of our TLCs told us that the bunny was a very popular local mascot.

My NM education clearly included that fact, that ZTA has no official mascot. Theta Chi chose the bunny, as many chapters have, but that other chapters had chosen differently and that was fine by IO. Sorry if your NM Educator taught you wrong, but that's the official word.
Going back to the movie, it's clearly using copyrighted stuff. And from what I've heard, we're not the only ones who got ripped off. I heard something about a Phi Mu -like chapter name being used also in the movie...

I went to see "Mamma Mia" last week with my husband & daughter. As soon as the trailer for "House Bunny" showed the ZTA letters over the door, my 11year old asked "Is this a movie about Zeta?!" She was very excited at first. Then, not so much.

that's what my niece said when she saw the commercial on tv. needless to say, even at 8 years old, she was NOT happy when the rest of the advertisement was shown.

Hey ladies,
Please excuse the intrusion, but I'd like to give some perspective from a non-ZTA regarding the House Bunny movie. When I first saw the previews for the movie, my initial reaction was "Wait. Was that really ZTA up there?". The more frequently I saw the ads, the more ridiculous the comparison seemed between actual ZTAs and the "Zetas" in the movie. At my school the ZTAs are some of the prettiest, most social girls on campus. So to me, portraying "Zetas" to be these weird, awkward girls was just ridiculous.
I know it's upsetting to see your letters being misrepresented, but just remember why you chose ZTA in the first place. You didn't join it for anyone else. You joined for you. You have fabulous sisters and a strong sisterhood. A movie isn't going to change that.

I (obviously) was an active years ago, but my chapter, Zeta, at UT had angels as our mascot in the late 70s. I still have a huge collection at my parents house. When I moved to Florida and began working, one of my friends was a Zeta at UF who told me their mascot was a zebra. I really don't know if this is still the case in those locations or not.

my chapter(beta gamma) had butterflies as a mascot-they have changed to white rabbits now. as far as i know gamma iota(uf) still has the zebra as their mascot.
our fgcu chapter(kappa tau) has the flamingo as their mascot.

Just a thought from a non-ZTA...
On the show "Greek" the women in the most sought after sorority are also refered to as Zetas (ZBZ sorority). Now, did this anger everyone as well? I know in House Bunny there seem to be many more similarities, but still...they are the Zetas. Just a thought...

The sorority on Greek doesn't use the same colors of the NPC groups, as the House Bunny did for BOTH sororities. That's the sticking point, not how the sororities are portrayed.

I watched the House Bunny, to see it for myself. From the perspective of someone who is not YET greek: It would make one think that the Phi Mu's are mean and the ZTA's are dorky. Of course, that's not what I really think... I'm a ZTA legacy, and I am in the process of getting my school to open for expansion. So obviously it did not really make me think badly of greek life. But I am still offended in the representation that sororities are all about being "pretty and partying." Although I am not yet in one, I know that they are based on sisterhood and philanthropy.
It just made greek life look bad.
