I think that everyone needs to leave Gamma Phi Beta alone. They are a multicultural sorority and have the right to dress in garb that reflects their heritage.

Question.
Do professional sports teams or universities pay Indians to use logos/names/mascots? I have to think the answer is no........because I guarantee you if they did, we wouldn't hear a whisper out of them.
What's sad is that usually money is the only agenda when it comes to these people. I'm beginning to think they could care less about the PC aspect of it so long as they are getting theirs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think FSU has some type of agreement with the Seminole tribe where they share in the rights to the logo. A couple of years ago, there was a hupla about Indian names for teams and the Seminoles told the press to leave them out of it, that they were happy and proud to have FSU using their name and identity as their mascot.
Quote:
The tribe officially sanctions FSU's use of Seminoles as a nickname and Chief Osceola as a mascot. Max Osceola, the chief and general council president of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, said Tuesday that it was an "honor" to be associated with FSU.

From an old article - maybe there is no financial agreement - they are just proud to be associated with the college

That's called "having a sense of ownership."
They don't feel mocked, belittled or objectified in that specific context. They have endorsed it (there is probably more to it than we are being told) and therefore don't feel that images are being taken and used against them.

The Hurons did the same when Eastern Michigan's board was deciding whether or not to change their mascot name. A chief came to the board meeting, said that they were honored that we used their name and the board voted to change to Eagles anyway.

Last year at my school someone (not sure if it was even a house!) had a party on Martin Luther King Day called a "Pimps and Hos" party. This was treated like the epitome of racism by our administration, including an open forum, etc. etc.
So, some students decided that they would show how silly they thought it was by protesting a party some frat house had a week later, one that was called "Redneck Hoes" or something like that. Anyway, the admin basically told them it was no big deal. Similarly, frats hold BET Vs. CMT date dashes and not a word is said by the admin.
I think they pick and chose, really.
