I don't think it will be a media circus for McCain, honestly. The media is too focused on the Dems to care about this, imo. As the saying goes, politics makes for strange bedfellows... everyone knows McCain had a hard time shoring up support from evangelicals, so I think he used Hagee to get a foot in the door. Yeah, Hagee's said some vile things regarding the Catholic Church (and other topics), but the people who would be turned off McCain by Hagee's comments (Catholics, as a general bloc of votes, not individuals) will probably not cross party lines and vote for a Dem simply because of the Dem stance on abortion... I mean, didn't Kerry face a firing line for that belief when he was the nominee in 2004?
It's interesting in Obama's case because he has broader support, and because of the pastor-disaster, he has more to lose politically. Also, religion (and the stupid people in the pulpit) in itself is not the storyline for the media this time around... it's race and racism. I gotta say they are driving me crazy.
I completely agree with your assessment of the race so far and it being the cycle of "denounce and reject". Pretty soon we'll know more things the candidates "reject" than they "accept." That's pretty pathetic.

Has anyone seen/heard anything about Hagee's latest shenanigans? I just saw something on CNN about it, but can't find anything in print...

Well, I don't know if this is what you heard or not, but there was a news story out today about a sermon Hagee gave in the late 90s explaining why the Holocaust happened... his view was that God ultimately wanted the Jews to come back to Israel. I didn't know God was so Machiavellian.

Ahhhh thank you I think that's it. I just caught the end of a story on CNN about it and wasnt at all sure of the details.
