I had heard of groups not allowing overweight women in their chapter to wear letters during recruitment and not being in the rush rooms, along with mandatory gym times right along with study hours. Ugh. And no, these are not the usual run of the mill rumors, this is coming from women in those chapters. So glad it's not true of every sister or every chapter...

PhiGam,
To make the week go faster, try getting drunk and hooking up with a different fug each night- I'm sure no one would miss you.
LOL.

I was a recruitment adviser at a school that did bidmatching by hand, so lemme tell ya, I saw it ALL. And it is so true that the ones who thought so highly of themselves were very often the ones who barely made the quota list during FR. I'd sit in MS with the chapter the following year and watch these squeakers come down so hard on whether certain PNMs were worthy of membership. There I was, thinking all the while, oh no you DIDNNT. But maybe, deep down, they were just terribly insecure.

Anyone else ever notice that most productive members and leaders were from the middle of the list? The tops and bottoms seemed to fall off the radar before very long. I've heard this comment from other sororities before... not sure if it's just a UCF thing...

I never really thought about this before. That's a really interesting observation! I guess the bottom line is that the people who might make the strongest first impression are not always the ones who walk the walk. They shine at FR because they know what to say and how to say it. They look put together.

Depending on how far down a chapter had to go on its bid list, those from the "bottom" who got in might feel less accepted because they weren't everyone's favorite, and as a result, they aren't as included. OR the fact that they are lower on the list reflects some other issues, such as they are less outgoing, maybe aren't leaders, etc.

The ones in the middle are probably the ones who are dedicated to the house with a lot of spirit, but maybe aren't the "stunners" of the house in terms of looks or leadership. Just the "give me a job and I will do it well" girls.

From a middle lister

I found out my junior or senior year that I wasn't high on Sigma's list, I mean I was on their main list, but just not some people's top choice. Anyway, my Sophomore year I was a spirit week chair and ran a rush night. Jr. year I was recruitment director. I took two littles, and according to one of them I "bleed purple and white". Yay for middle-listers!

Haha, oh no it's not. It never fails that the girl that everyone is "like so in love with" ends up causing the most drama and issues within the chapter.

Every year, there is one girl during recruitment that EVERY sorority is just nuts over. The sorority that ends up with her is like "Yay we're so awesome, we pledged Jane Doe that everyone wanted!" Then she wreaks havoc on the chapter and usually ends up quitting sometime shortly after initiation.

During my last recruitment as an active, there was a girl who was the younger sister of a very popular fraternity guy. She was a champion HS gymnast, and an accomplished model. Everybody wanted this girl. I mean everybody. I remember being a tad upset that she didn't come back to us.

The 2 sororities she preffed both attempted to dirty rush her and got infractions it was so bad. Well, she ended up pledging her top choice, ABC. ABC was sooo happy that they'd snagged the most "wanted" PNM in rush, they couldn't stop talking about it at Bid Night.

Well, about 2 weeks in, Miss Everybody Loves Me starts showing her true colors. I have a friend in ABC, and everytime we'd talk, she'd have something new to say about this girl and what she was doing.

First she got caught by a sister playing strip beer pong at a fraternity house. When she was disciplined for it, she started a fight in the chapter house which ended in property damage. The final straw was when she came to the house drunk and fell down the living room steps. When sisters tried to help her, she started fighting them, and the cops had to be called.

She ended up quitting about a week after initiation (I honestly don't see why they kept her around that long). She then moved home and went to community college. So there's my story about the PNM that everybody loves, "beware".

i really like how the topic of this thread totally changed from what it was meant to be. i totally like this better anyway, cause they guy who started this seems like stereotypical "frat" boy.

anywho, i know that i was not one of the "TOP" choices. I think it makes me a better sister though cause i try to show my sisters everyday how much of an asset i am to the chapter. I currently have a very high up position within the chapter and many older sisters have said that they can see me being president soon.

and btw, one of my pledge sisters who was one of the top choices ended up being the worst pledge EVER! she totally disrespected the older sisters of the chapter, acted really slutty at socials, and kept missing meetings.

She ended up disaffiliating.

I think it depends on WHY they were on the top of the bid list. For example: girls like KSUViolet mentioned usually have end up being less awesome sisters. IMO, chances are she hasn't had to try very hard...ever. Those people are the people who think that the other new members and actives should do things THEIR way and make sure THEY get what they want, because they're so special that everyone wanted them and they're gracing us with their presence [in their eyes].

On the other hand, sometimes girls who are at the top of the bid list are there because they fit a certain chapter perfectly. Those girls are more likely to excel, IMO.

well i was told that i was wanted, but not a top choice because i seemed really shy. i think i might have come off as shy cause i was so nervous about making a good impression cause i tend to say the wrong (read: inappropriate) things sometimes.

IMO, thats the problem with formal rush. everything goes by so fast, and everyone is trying to put their best foot forward, you dont really get to see people for who they are. Now my sisters tell me and need to calm down and not talk so much. :/

Stuff like that, anything to help the manflirting not last as long.
as a rushee this spring semester i must say that's just plain not nice, but as a person i have to say something more along the lines of... BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH oh god that's hilarious.

Depending on what goes into voting, you could be at the bottom of the bid list for reasons that have nothing to do with your looks or personality. If your grades are barely scraping the minimum to go through rush, that's most likely going to make you come in lower, although most girls could care less about that when choosing a sister (that is, it doesn't make them like you less, but it is something that has to be taken into account). I don't know how anyone could be offended about that.
