I wouldn't put money on that. We've seen this debate so many times, and I know I've seen people explain why it's a horrible example, and then we see someone throw it out there again 15 posts later, after the thread dies and then gets bumped.

It may take another n00b and a year or two, but it will happen.

As the frat/fraternity debate grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving "country" approaches one. - AlphaFrog's Law #2

Sorry -- I know it was a typo, but it was a humorously ironic typo.

And whether you like the country analogy doesn't really make it any better an analogy. It's a stupid analogy because it compares apples and oranges. However much you may dislike the word "frat," that word is not and never has been considered an obscenity.

Perhaps an edit in the first 2 words is desirable?

And wow, AF, within 3 minutes of your prediction! That must be a record!

ETA: And I wondered about the "PhiGam" thing too when I first saw the username, the FIJIs on my campus were militant about ONLY being called FIJI.

Seriously, it got posted WHILE I was posting my response to AF (so mine looks like I didn't read the thread).

Yes, PhiGam is a southern thing.

a little OT, but since you brought up the "what do you call your country"...

I was at my grandmothers for, I believe, thanksgiving last year. I was sitting between my two cousins at the table (just the 3 of us at this table). The older one commented on my letters and called it a 'frat'. So I was like "I'm not in a frat..." that confused him so I explained its a fraternity "Same difference" "Well if you call your fraternity a frat, what do you call your country?" He looks at me for a second or two... "Um, America?" Said it again & he still didn't get it... His younger brother & I got a good laugh out of it though

PS Alphafrog... LOVE the sig file
