We had Asian girls in our house over 25 years ago, and we never thought twice about it back then.

If being Asian is a problem, then that must be the only solution.
Anyway, all girls who join NPC sororities are not white.

Going back to OP, would you really want to be a part of that organization if this is a legit concern?

I would say you have bigger issues to focus on than whether a sorority is going to take you, if you're making comments like this about yourself.

Ah, you all, you could probably ease up.
Do you imagine the OP really has a problem being a junior too?
It's pretty clear that she was asking about things that the groups could potentially see as problems during recruitment.
And as much as we hope race and ethnicity aren't even going to be issues and know they shouldn't be in terms of GLO policies, who among us can be absolutely sure they won't be?
I agree with others who have posted that they don't think being Asian will be an issue, but it's a reasonable question.
If you've ever read some of the "fratty" forums, you'd know that some idiots are still interested in discriminating.

^^ Not trying to be 'sensitive', but I interpreted the OP's statement not as thinking that being Asian was a problem, but wondering if being Asian would be a factor that would cause some groups to drop her. She could have worded it better, but that is what I think she is concerned about.

Granted we are working with limited knowledge of where this young woman is planning on transfering to, but if she is at all in anyway concerned about her ethnicity being an issue during recruitment, why would she seek to join any of those groups. And it is this that I think others are commenting on. And granted this is GC and many things are posted on the fly, a la Freud what you post and how you post usually have some bearing on your personal feelings. I can't ever imagine me wording something in the frame of: "the problem is I'm African American." Those words don't even sound right coming out of my mouth like that.

ummmm, in the year 2007 that right there would most probably be defined as a problem.

I just thought this point needed to be reiterated. I think too many people reading too much into the OP's post.

I don't think your race is the problem at all. Why should it be? I think those members who deny membership to anyone based on race alone have the problem.

We had a couple Asian girls in my chapter and we referred to one as the "Asian Sensation!" She embraced her nationality but also very much embraced American culture, as she was born and raised in Northern VA. She made fun of herself all the time and it was never an issue that she was "different." She was an awesome collegiate member and now she's a leader in her alum chapter. Of course we all knew she came from different origins than most of us, but it was never an issue...ever. I am proud of my diverse chapter! I think even an all white group would accept you. I'd say the only thing you need to worry about is your Junior standing - but again that depends on the school...

What is this?
Crouching Rusher, Hidden Intake.....sheesh
If you think your race is keeping you from joing a GLO then maybe you shouldn't join said org...it's only a problem if YOU make it a problem.
