I tried to pm you but you don't have the pm function turned on to accept messages. It is hard to give you advise beyond the superficial as we do not know what campus you are from, what the climate is for nationals, locals, etc. I am sure the NPC group had to think long and hard about closing the chapter - we all do but membership is for a lifetime and you should try to keep the girls together socially and maybe even by doing something to contriute to the community.

Feel free to pm me.

I understand how you are feeling, but kind of in a weird way.

1) my chapter of initiation was closed in May 05, so I completely understand your anger about that

2) I attempted to affiliate with the chapter at my new school, unfortunately it didn't work out and I had to go alum. I truly understand how awkward it is being made to go alum while you are still a collegian. I was so angry for a really long time too. But thankfully I graduated a year later and then I really got involved in the alum association. My difference is that fact that I was at a school where I had sisters who were active, yet I wasn't a member of their chapter. That was incredibly tough on me. Your kind of lucky (although it doesn't seem like it) in the regards that you don't have to deal with seeing your "active" sisters walk around in their letters and you don't "belong".

With that in mind, join the alum association (if there is a close and active one). No matter what, those sisters are going to be glad that you decided to remain involved!

You didnt mention what school you attend but I know my sorority is looking to expand. It would be easy for your friends to start a chapter, we have a start minimum of 5. Unlike what your sorority was looking for we are not interested in chapters that are 100+. We are looking for true sisterhood and friendships and you cant get that when you recruit 50 each semester. Anyway if you want more information please email me at reeses@lambdaphixi.org or check out lambdaphixi.org. We are non panhellenic so you dont have to give up your membership in the other organization.

[QUOTE=emb021;1404675]FYI- its not just a 'NPC thing'. The 'rule' as pretty much always been that one can only join one social/general fraternity/sorority. This does not restrict you from joining service, professional, or honorary GLOs, btw.

That is not always the case. Our fratrernity's rule is that one would have to resign from the first inter/national fraternity before joining Alpha Delt. We also belong to NIC, which has what is called the "comity clause". This requires that we cannot initiate anyone who is a member of another NIC fraternity without that fraternity releasing that member in writing. We could initiate a member of any other fraternity if they had resigned, whether that fraterrnity "accepted" the resignation or not. Before NIC, it was common at a number of schools for a man to join several fraternities as they were class societies. That's why both AD and DKE claim Teddy(or maybe FDR) Roosevelt as a member.
