I think we should get all famous war generals' and presidents' birthdays off ... that might get rid of Mondays all together!

If they did that PLUS give us the days off like they do for the women in South Korea, we'd be all set!

If you are a State of Georgia employee, I believe you get the day after Thanksgiving off in honor of Robert E Lee. At some point during the year, you get Confederate Memorial day too, I think.
I think it would honor the tradition of MLK better not to "celebrate" the two together.
I admire Robert E Lee, but it's too complicated to reconcile the legacies of both.

okay, the 15th just happened to fall on a monday this year. But we celebrate MLK on monday even if it isnt the 15th. SO whats the big deal in celebrating REL on Monday as well?
As I the only one who thinks it's a load of crap that businesses view MLK day as a paid holiday, but presidents day in february, is not? Good ol' GA Pacific is this way. We just had christmas AND new years off, and we wont get another holiday until memorial day. I'd rather work MLK day and get presidents day off myself, but thats just me.
And no, there's no reason to get pissy about that comment. It's just an observation. I'm not implying that MLK day is not important. I DO however, think its crap that it overshadows presidents day.

I understand what your point is and agree.
Would like to point out that most of my company was open; the unionized warehouse was closed.
