I am looking forward to the information because in July of this year, the DST Eastern Regional Conference is in Hartford. Their convention and visitor's bureau must have been working real hard in 2006!

Hey . . . I'm a Hartford native

Downtown, on the corner of Trumble Street and Pratt street (accross from the Civic Center) there is a black owned establishment called "The Russell". It's a lounge/ cocktail place that serves what I call gourmet West Indian food and offers live jazz on Thursday's. I'm not sure if they still do the live poerty or the wine tasting on the weekends. Overall, it is a sophisticated place for people of color to meet, network and relax. The dress code (there's no official one but unofficially) is dressy casual. Example blazers with jeans and heals, a nice blouse and skirt ect. Can you tell that I just love this place

Here's the website:

If your planning to go during the weekday (Mon-Wed.) then reservations aren't really necessary . . but if you planning to go on the weekend . . .especailly on Friday or Saturday then yea, reservations are a really good idea

Y'all were VERY smart to go to Connecticut in July, because Hartford in January ain't nothin' nice!

My pointers:

Stay at the Marriott if you can. It's definitely the most convenient hotel to the convention center, by far!

Pack snacks and beverages. The food situation is far from plentiful, so you want to be prepared in case you need a snack, and it's always good to bring your own bottled water instead of paying inflated hotel/convention center prices. The convention center was pretty good with having a hot dog cart and snack stand available outside of session, but I definitely prefer having my own than paying $1.25 for a $.50 bag of chips.

If you're looking for a quick mall excursion, check out the Westfarms Mall. They have a ton of great shops and restaurants.

***I think that's it for now.

^^ I was lightweight jealous of those who stayed at the Hilton. I heard they were very well taken care of with all sorts of goodies. Supposedly, the manager is a Kappa.

I could use one of those specially made martinis right now, LOL!!

Greetings Sorors!

This was my very first NARC experience, and I am still tickled pink...it was absolutely fabulous!

I stayed at the Hilton, and yes, they took very, very good care of us! They had pink and green lighting in the lobby, the elevators, the restaurant...everywhere! When we came back from the first day's sessions, they had these absolutely delightful pink & green tea cookies waiting for us in the lobby! I even heard that they had pink toilet paper in the lobby-level restrooms (I didn't see it for myself).

The special AKA menu that they had prepared for us was the icing on the cake! I didn't get to try the Skee-Wee Tini that they had on the menu, but I heard that they were delish!

Yes, the Marriott was nice (well with the exception of my neighbors who were obviously smoking in their room)

We "discovered" Nicks and had our food delivered. The cost was reasonable. We figured we must have tipped well because we got our meals within 20-25 minutes of ordering each time
.

How about we ordered Chinese delivery and my delivery man asked me what the heck was going on??? He was like, I just had deliveries at the Crowne Plaza and the Hilton. I told him that a sorority is having a conference at the convention center and we've travelled from as far south as Washington D.C. and as far north as Maine to attend. Then he had the nerve to question why we weren't staying at the Marriott. I told him that one hotel couldn't contain us all :-P
