[QUOTE=LOVEinZTA;1350985]haha that they do, but don't you worry i've got baylor love too.
Oh good, I was worried that we might not be sharing love for ALL the Big XII schools in Texas (although I could TOTALLY do without those guys South East of BU!!!) I have a UT sweatshirt actually. My crazy grandmother who lives in California bought it for me at a thrift store because it said "Texas." It was also in burnt orange. She was so excited about it though so I had to act thrilled. I wear it all the time though, it's fun to see the looks I get. Speaking of funny looks about Texas here in Montreal, this guy was trying to pass me on a motorcycle yesterday and he was looking at my front license plate (texas tags!) and the car in front of him stopped. He looked up just in time, slammed on the brakes/whatever but he still hit the car. He was completely ok but I about died laughing at him.

No love for Brazos county? What a bummer.
I grew up in Bexar county and now live in Travis county.
Good luck to your sister.

Well, Sandy told me yesterday that they had a fall recruitment round (at Baylor we called it Fall Parties) like an open house type deal. Her initial reactions are as follows:
Harris: Absolute favorite, says the girls are amazing and she LOVES them. Loves everything about them.
Travis: (one she's a legacy to) Also loves this house...always good to be a legacy to a house you love. She has a lot of friends here who are upperclassmen and feels like she would fit in here just as well as Harris.
McLennan This is the only house she has a rec for and as I said before her cousin is a member. Her initial response, from what she'd seen on campus and from her cousin was very good, however she doesn't feel as comfortable here as in Harris and Travis. She liked all the girls a lot, but didn't feel like they were as interested in her as her top 2. I think she is still open to this house though.
Bexar, Tarrant, and Live Oak: She said the same thing about these three. Very nice girls, seem like they have a lot to offer, but doesn't fit in as well with them as the others.
I can't wait!! We're going shopping and going through some "coaching" when I get back to Texas for Christmas. YAH HOO!

She doesn't have a rec to her legacy chapter?!? She only has a rec to one GLO on campus? I guess my Ole Miss roots are showing, but YIKES!

They are ADPiZXalum didn't specify exactly where the chaper was except for in the "East" and there are schools, primarily in the Northeast, where recs are virtually unheard of. I have friends at schools in CT and NY where they'll only get two or three recs out of 500 PNMs, most of these were from legacies. I could see how that, if ADPi's lil sis's legacy connection were deceased that she wouldn't feel comfortable contacting an alumnae association for a rec. That could be looked at as "weird" at some schools, as in, "why is this random alum writing a rec for someone she doesn't personally know?" At a lot of northern schools, having a strong personal connection (friend, relative) for recommendations is highly emphasized.

Now that I've recovered from the "vay-puhs" brought on by learning of ADPiZXalum's little sister's rec situation, I was able to comprehend your most plausible explanation, AChiOSnap. How's that for some Ole Miss roots?

LOL! I think we all get a dose of culture shock every year on GC when we read about how different schools do recruitment...whether it's the traditional southern school where ladies spend $1000 on recruitment wardrobes and scramble to get 19 rec letters, or the the liberal, nontraditional Northern colleges where ladies go through with flip flops and ripped up Urban Outfitters pants and Paul Frank t-shirts.
I'll tell you that I'm sure my Northern roots showed when I once told a story here about how one of my sorority sisters was annoyed when she received a recommendation letter for a PNM... she said "Well isn't this a little presumptuous. I think I can pick my own sorority sisters!"
Being an experienced GCer, I quickly set her straight...but she had never SEEN a recommendation letter before! They're certainly not common at some Northern/Midwestern schools, that's for sure

That's for sure. We're all certain how we do things is how it's supposed to be done and are surprised when we find out things run just as smoothly done another way. Remember that story about the blind men describing an elephant? They all had valid, if incomplete, descriptions depending on what part of the elephant they were touching. That's kind of what the differences in recruitment procedures are like (and we won't even get into the fraternities' way of doing things!).

It seems like recruitment is a reflection of the school atmosphere. I advise a chapter where the girls (actives and rushees)are wearing designer jeans to the first two rounds. According to my D, no girls wear jeans ever for anything at her school and certainly not for formal recruitment.

I've never seen one....I've heard of them of course but I've never seen one...I'm not sure that anyone from my old school would have known what one was besides for myself and AEPhiSierra

About the legacy rec thing, her mom has been really out of the loop with her sorority for YEARS. I basically went to their national website, found a contact number, sent it to her, and said, WRITE HER A REC!!! I think it might be a case where recs are not SUPER important, but honestly I don't know.
* I just wanted to reiterate that she is not my REAL sister so ADPi is not her legacy house!!

Darn! Here and I thought I had Travis all figured out!
...that still means she's listed as a "tie" to you, doesn't it? with a rec?
Good luck Sandy!

Ahh ha, I never said ADPi was on this campus, I only said it wasn't her legacy house!! So her "tie" to me does not matter. Her mom has some friends that were in a sorority and she got one from one of them. "I'll never tell!!"
Patience grasshopper, this ordeal will be over with in a few weeks!! Then you will know all!
ps.... how's Baylor, i miss it!
