It is very strong academically. I would argue more so than UF. Miami is a private university. UF is a public school and the flagship university of the state.

UNF- they are strict with payments. If you don't pay on time, they drop you! UF didn't do that. I never got a degree from here- only took 3 graduate level classes- so I cannot give much more insight.

USF- I had no problem getting the classes I wanted. But then, I was a graduate student. However, they do charge for transcripts and make you wait a while for them- which UF didn't do. And you have to wait for your diplomas as well.

Anyhow, when I entered USF to go to library school, a sorority was just colonizing or having a first rush there. It was ZTA. I was VERY tempted to check them out- but the rush activities were coinciding with my classes and job. Plus I did not know if you could do it as a graduate student- but had I could, you bet I would have tried. Shows you my interest never went away. I'm a PNAM now.

yea ZTA colonized here in 2003. i know a few girls in there and they are really friendly

As both a UF & UM (grad school) alumna, I wouldn't say that UM is very strong academically. It is very easy to get accepted to UM, esp compared to UF. Though it's private, UM offers tons of financial aid/scholarships if you qualify...which is how they get so many of Miami's top high school students, esp the ones who don't want to leave the comforts of home.

Hey my motto for college (as per the facebook group) is that "Leaving college in 4 years is like leaving a party at 10:30...

And for all my FSU fans...
What did the UF graduate say to the FSU graduate?

"Would you like fries with that?"

And nothing against Gator fans, but I still bleed garnet and gold even though I have to add some black in the there for my new school (UCF is black and gold).

BTW... for anybody reading this who doesn't know... UF and FSU have a huge rivalry.. and the ribbing is all done in fun.

In fact, as an AI in ZTA, I didn't have a big sister. An FSU Zeta "adopted" me-- a Gator! as her little sis.

(Oh my.. I wonder if UF will now revoke my degree! --- just kidding liltrixx!)

oh my gosh. UF and FSU are rivals? I didn't know that! Blueangel, can you tell me more about this rivalry?

Anyways, back on topic. Don't rush as a junior. Why pay dues when you can just alumni initiate later ala greek to the chat. Ask 92 percent of the women on greekchat!

update!

so i went to the greek life office and they said they dont really have quota's. hmm. then i asked if i had any chance as a junior. she said that i would but that i would have to make a really big impression, of course. she also toldme that some sororities prefer older girls to freshman b/c they are more experienced? not really sure what she meant by that..im assuming it has something to do with maturity. anyways, then i asked about rec letters. i had someone in mind, but again the girl at the office said they dont really matter too much, and even the girl i was going to ask to write me one said that they are only really important if i was her sibling.soooo...yea. im feeling nervous but i am confident in my personality. im friendly, outgoing and love going out with the girls and helping people. ill keep ya'll posted

If you have the opportunity to get letters of recommendation, I would go for it. The office of greek life cannot necessarily speak for all of the sororities. While some sororities don't give that much weight to letters of rec, others do. So, to be on the safe side, I'd get what you can! Good luck!

Red face update! one week left til recruitment!

Rush starts in ONE week!! im so excited, yet quite nervous. but that is normal from what i have read here. USF has 8 panhellenic sororites, so just so i dont name names during my recruitment posts,i'll name them after disney princesses:
1)Ariel
2)Snow White
3)Cinderella
4)Belle
5)Aurora
6)Jasmine
7)Pocahontas
8)Tinkerbell (who isnt really a princess, but i couldnt think of anymore!)

ive got all my outfits picked out except for my pref day dress. i decided the one i was going to wear is too plain and i want to stand out, so ill be shopping for that in a few days! i started a post in recruitment stories as well but i figured that maybe ya'll who posted on this thread earlier would like a heads up. i really want to thank everyone who has helped me so far here on GC. all your advice has been fantastic and truly taken to heart!

stay tuned!
