I get the "you don't look like the sorority girl type" saying as well.

And then ever famous "You were in a local? That's not an actual sorority!"

I don't like the image that has been thrown around of dressing fratty. I absolutely hate seeing pictures of Northern/Jersey trash and douchebag Californians that have albums for their "fratty" theme parties. Everyone in the picture wears three popped collared shirts, cargo shorts, and some kind of faggoty bracelet. Sorry, but down South we wear Brooks Brothers, pleated khakis, and Seersucker. There is nothing gentlemanly about Abercrombie and ripped up Hollister.

What part of the south are you from? B/c in Tennessee many of our boys wear the "fratty" look. And I can honestly say I have NEVER seen a fraternity member wear pleated khakis to anything important. Flatfront khakis, yes. Pleated khakis... only for 80's date party.

When people say "you don't seem like the sorority type" I tell them, "I didn't think I was either." I only rushed because my mom wanted me to and was I surprised that it wasn't at all like I thought it was.

I wouldn't trade my sisters for anything and it's funny to think that I told my mom "Fine, I'll do it, it's your thirty bucks"

That is very true.

I always tell people not to paint with such a broad brush. There's a diversity of people in all of our organizations so the outcome will be as diverse.

I go to Texas....and I have been to parties at University of Tennessee and spent a considerable amount of time at Ole Miss, Alabama, Georgia, etc. and hardly ever see flat front khakis. Where in the world do you get that pleated khakis were only instyle in the 80's. But I suppose if you consider vertical striped shirts and Bannana Republic fratty....then you would think flat front khakis are acceptable.

People need to understand that when people refer to "southern fraternities" they are usually only referring to the large SEC schools and several in Texas. There are probably a few others such as W & L, but the smaller state universities are not what we're talking about. I'm actually not sure why this is, that smaller state schools don't adopt southern greek traditions, but it seems to be the case. Perhaps they simply do not have the tradition that their larger counterparts do.
