As of right now I am finding rec letters for the sixteen sororities that UF has (atleast the sixteen listed on their website.) I am wondering how others felt about the time period in which you had to select a house for you. Also, I am stressing because recruitment is during the first week of school. I am concerned that I will have a class during the parties...what happens if I missed them? If anyone has been in this situation, I would appreciate some advice.
Thank you so much!
Sorority recruitment is a mutual selection process. Your choices will get narrowed down by what houses give you invites back. If you happen to get more invites that you have available spots to go to parties (which isn't super common), then you'll decide which you want to go to. It's slimmed down little by little after each round, so the decision isn't as big as you might think it is.

Thank you all so much for the advice. Hopefully I won't have class on that Thursday and Friday...I find out my schedule tomorrow and I will try my hardest to not schedule a lab on those nights. Luckily, there are only two days that interfere with recruitment and they don't have any parties on the Wednesday that class begin...we will see how it goes. But once again thank you!

I'm sure that this is an issue that Panhellenic is aware of and can work around. There are no Recruitment Events on the first day of class (8/23) and the remaining events for the week take place in late evening, after most classes have let out.

My school started doing recrutiment during the first week of school when I was an undergraduate. It was a change from having recruitment the week before school started. PNM's with class during a party were allowed to go to class and the council would inform the sorority that the girl could not attend the party. Girls would automatically be invited to the next party by the sorority. Of course not many freshmen took night classes.

i hate to put a damper on the discussion, but i think that more latitude would be granted to a pnm who has a class and has to miss a party at the beginning of the week, than toward the end.

as sororities begin to whittle their lists down toward the girls who will go on their bid list, they are going to want to be able to spend as much time with their pnms- if someone missed the two days prior to prefs., i would imagine that they would also miss out on appearing on most groups pref. party lists.

not advocating skipping class, but do want pnms to realize the risk.

I agree but hopefully the recruitment is set up so that most PNM's would not miss many if any parties.

I completely understand if I had to miss a party and the house that I missed didn't realize that I wanted to be there. Usually for freshman the usual classes at night are labs and last about an hour. I hope that it never becomes an issue though because although I have the impression that recruitment is very stressful...I don't want to miss out but I have to remember the first reason I went to college. Thanks again for all of your advice...you guys are the only source I have for my greek knowledge.

dont worry about the first days of class interfearing w/ rush, usually the parties are later in the day if class has already started (my school does this), but dont worry! If you really love a house and you know that maybe the next day you will have to go to class (not to they party) then tell them!!! let them know you loved their house and you could see yourself there! having this kind of info is great for the actives, esp. if you arnt going to be there the next day! good luck!

Well while GC was down, I received my schedule and I don't have any classes at night on Thursday and Friday! I don't have to worry about that anymore! Thank you to all for the nice words and encouragement!
