It's supposed to protect you from every disease, help you cut fat, help you jump over tall buildings, and give you improved memory. It's probably just nothing but, if I remember, I just take a shot of it or put it in a shake. I mean it's cold from the fridge and tastes sorta nutty I think so it's not as bad as you think.

When we were kids, my friends used to do that. They said it kept their breath from stinking. I never told them that it didnt work.

When I was growing up my folks and their adult friends told me that watermellon is best by itself but if the melon is rather tasteless, as sometimes happens, then a light sprinkle of salt will bring out flavor and sweetness. I thought it sounded crazy but tried it with a particularly flat tasting melon and it actually substantially improved the taste. Weird. I wouldn't salt a good melon but if the one you have is just so-so a small sprinkle of salt really works (unless you have another good tasting melon).

Now, as to vodka, OK but light rum works very well also. I prefer my vodka as a very dry martini with an anchovy olive.

If I don't have sugar, whipped cream or hot fudge/chocolate are acceptable.

You are making me crave strawberry shortcake smothered in whipped cream. Mmmmm

As for the watermelon, I've always put salt on it. I agree with kstar who says it makes it taste sweeter!

While we're on the subject of watermelon, I have a small phobia about eating any of the white part down by the rind because my grandmother always said it gives you the stutchkies (which is Polish for the runs).

Yeah, a lot of health stuff.

But, some of the girls on facebook have discovered that it can do something else.

One of my grandmothers do that. She puts sugar on everything (even stuff like mac and cheese), nevertheless.

I used to add butter and soy sauce to white rice when I was little. Thinking about it now makes me gag.

Who ever said YOU Have Grown Up Yet?

Now with Natural Strawberrys, they are Tart, ergo use a little sugar!

Now when making Strawberry Daqueries, use frozen and booze.

CT4, You use home made whip cream on water mellon?

Oh, Never mind Stawberrys.

When Doing Strawberry Shork Cake, what happened to the Home Made and not the store bought crap?

Salt on melon? I've never heard of such a thing.

Strawberries are really good if you cut off the stems, cut them in half, put them in a big bowl and sprinkle sugar over them, and store in the fridge for a day or so until you get yummy sweet strawberries and juice -- SO GOOD over vanilla ice cream.

Hay Tom,
With reference to your last comment, do you remember the movie Chariots of Fire? When the Hall Porter at Cambridge refers to Abrahams as "Sonny", he replys "I ceased being referred to as sonny when I took up the King's commission". I figure that when I took up my country's commission and commanded American troops in combat the same concept would apply. So, yes, I would say that I have grown up and earned my degree from the well known school of hard knocks, but I am also willing to ask for and gratefully accept advice from those with more experience. To that point I refer you to my latest 'What's for Dinner" post where I ask you for info on whether I have a cigar wrapper description right or not.

But other than that, how have you been? I am jetlagged to the max and in desperate need of strong coffee. About 20 hours of sleep and maybe I can make some sense, but I still say that a little salt makes a blah melon taste better.
