After taking pics with students, they led the march. Then when we made it to the state capitol they gave speeches. As we were leaving, they announced that the Governor called them during the rall and that they were meeting with him at that time. I will post if there is any new developments. The speeches were good, but the best was current FAMU vice-president/president elect Phillip Agnew (I think is his name). He's really dynamic, too bad I had to get a little crunk with him before the march, LOL. It was a pretty uplifting march though. Lots of participation from FAMU and FSU students.

ETA: Look for me on the news and in the newspapers FSU Black Law Students Association was on the front line. Many cameras. A reporter from the Tampa Tribune is supposed to call to interview me this afternoon.
Soror, please keep us posted.

Those are the results that are being kept sealed. You can see the video of the boot camp, and video of the family speaking here

Remember that the original tape is over 40 minutes long.

If you google search "florida boot camp beating" you'll get hits where the video is available.
They must have taken it off the air because it is not allowing me to pull it up.

Sorry for the back-to-back posts. The video of the beating can be viewed here

Also to see footage of today's protest as shown on the local noon news:

1. Go to http://www.wctv6.com/

2. Scroll down to Featured Videos

3. Click on "Bootcamp Death Protest"

There is also footage of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson on that site as well.

Oh MY GOD. I can't move. My heart goes out to the parents of this young man who lost his life senselessly. This makes no sense and it took the nurse examining him for them to realize he was hurt. I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They need to be put in a camp like that. No one deserves to die that way.

A few of my pics from the protest:

AKA wasn't the only D9 sorority present, the young lady below center is a member of Delta Sigma Theta I would venture to say that there was representation of every D9 org. ( I was rocking my "SKEE-WEE" tote bag )

ETA: Protesters were wearing a bandage on the face to represent the abuse that Martin Lee Anderson suffered at the hands of the officials who murdered him.

D9 represent and Skee-Weeeeeeee to all of my sorors and frats who were out for the cause. Maybe this will encourage more chapters to be about positive activism instead of hazing.

Much love to all of those who participated in some way with the March. I am just still so sadden by that video. My God people no longer value life.

Talking Bay County has closed its boot camp

Bay County has closed its boot camp, and the House Justice Appropriations Committee wants to replace camps statewide with residential programs. The U.S. Justice Department is also investigating possible civil rights violations in the case.

Was this a state run program? Or a state sponsored prgram that was run by an independant company?

I remember a few years ago that there was a big blow up about boot camps being terrible places in Arizona. It seems that alot of them are independantly run.

http://www.orange-papers.org/orange-gulags.html

This has a summary of some of the deaths in some boot camp situations . . . its a little biased but if you scroll to the news aricles it lists some of the issues.

It's always a great feeling to be in the presence of so many beautiful, intelligent, socially conscious black students. Black college students who took time out of their weekend and their exam studies to fight for a good cause. It was moving and reassuring to see that the future of the African American community is in the hands of people who will not take injustice lying down. Damn right we had lots to smile about. But you wouldn't know anything about that.

ETA: Be assured that your people's attempts at oppression will never break the Black spirit.

*singing*...and with a smile
