I'm from up north too, and I absolutely love it here - even post-Katrina. The university itself is in kind of a "renewal" phase right now... administration's word, not mine - we have a "renewal plan"... where we're rebuilding the student body in terms of numbers... all in all, post-K, the plan is to be somewhat smaller than we were before (still by no means small in my opinion), with some restructuring of university components. IE restructuring the undergrad schools, etc... nothing that terribly effects the student body. (It did originally, with a large segment of the engineering programs being cut, but that's water under the bridge now.) All in all, it feels very similar to be a student here now to how it did before the hurricane. The incoming classes now have community service requirements for graduation, but community service was a big thing here even before Katrina. As for the Greek system, things seem pretty much the same - we recently had 2 fraternity houses burn over our Christmas break this year (KA order and ZBT) but both chapters are committed to rebuilding from everything I know, and the Greek system is still a pretty substantial part of the Tulane social scene. The university is, starting next year, forcing all sophomores (in addition to freshman, which is how it is now) to live on campus, which has the potential to create some minor problems with the chapters that have big houses that need to be filled, but I can only think of one such chapter off the top of my head, so really... not huge. Oh, and for the first time in memorable history, they enforced a dry rush, but as you can imagine, that didn't necessarily keep rush dry, strictly speaking. That's about all I can think of off the top of my head, but if you want other specifics, just ask.
