I don't remember that at all - honestly, the only recent champs who I've heard criticized are the Houston teams (because MJ was retired), and people even admit that The Dream and the rest of the team was championship quality.

Living here, we heard all about it. In fact, when the Spurs won the championship in 2003, one of the covers of the SA Express-News read "What Asterik?"

I dont feel like researching it now, maybe later, but there was lots of commentary about it. I am sure I can dig some up.

I believe you - the local media does a good job of digging that stuff up around here too.

Yeah, I'd never know about it if the local columnists werent quoting other columnists from LA, Chicago, etc.

I think the reason we were all so aware of the comments was because we wondered if there was some validity to it. Fortunately, four years later, and again two years later the Spurs proved themselves. Then last year, those same 'asterik' naysayers were the first ones dropping the 'Dynasty' term.

I wish I got paid to be a columnist/commentator. Who wouldnt like to get paid for doing nothing more than having an opinion and a loud-ass mouth?

You know, yeah that 99 season just sucked completely. There shouldn't be an asterik for the Spurs, because hey, they won right? But that season just sucked completely. It just didn't feel right, and it's kind of unfair for the Spurs. I'm not sure whether or not people are trying to disrespect the Spurs, but I just think people just act as if that season didn't exist...as it shuoldn't have.

the Spurs are a good team. You are right. Too bad the NBA can give a rats ass about them and the Pistons. It's horrifically obvious that the NBA desperately wants the Lakers and the Knicks to be good. And in college football, you can just totally see a USC loss about to happen. ESPN basically made everyone hate SC. It became like SC vs the world. They made SC into this goliath like creature, when in reality Texas was a great too. UT was right. They were disrespected. Not by SC though. But by ESPN.

They play up the same stuff here too about the Pistons about having no superstars and no respect. It worked the year they played the lakers but the last two years isn't too believeable.

What I am talking about....

The Tower will be orange through the weekend, and will be relit as such when students return on the 17th so everyone can appreciate it.

My first time ever in Austin was in 1992 for a HS journalism conference and we had the run of the UT campus on a sunday. I knew the top floor was locked, cause of the shooter deal in 63 or whenever (as was the rest of the tower on a sunday, cause its really just an office building) but we started jiggling door handles and found one that was open. We walked up 18 floors or something to the floor right below the top floor and opened windows to look out. We were in the payroll office, literally in an office, with computers and employee files and such looking around. We would have been in so much unbelievable trouble had we been caught. Who breaks into the tower?

Anyway, it looks so good in orange...

Seeing the tower orange for the 2nd time in a year would be worth the drive to Austin! Too bad I have plans for tomorrow and the 17 won't fit into my plans either. I figure since my university went and changed its name, I can cheer for UT - plus I'm a Texan and will always cheer for any Texas team. My husband was in Austin on Thurs and I asked him to get a Statesman, he said he couldn't find one anywhere. Someone even took the one at his office. Hook 'em!
