Ditto on that second thing.

About the Flintstones - someone told me the other day that their local news station actually had asked its viewers to send in a sound clip of Fred yelling out "Wilma!"

This is taking the same path as Charley did last year. People in Southwest Florida and Orlando still haven't done all the repairs to their home since last hurricane season! I hope that this storm pulls a Rita and loses its strength before it hits the shore.

This is where my mom lives that I'm visiting. Last I knew it was going directly over her house. But I haven't checked this morning, so maybe it's moved a bit. My mom moved there 2 years ago and was told that they hadn't had a hurricane hit them in like 40 years. Then last year they got 2. When I was down there in March they were still recovering, tons of signs missing, some buildings and bridges being rebuilt, that type of thing. Nothing like NO obviously, but it was pretty destructive.

I just read that she has slowed down. Kinda like she's just sitting out in the Gulf sticking her tongue out at everyone trying to decide which way to turn.

The map they just showed had Wilma pretty much hitting Key West and going right up the East Coast. Take cover, GC people - I feel for y'all!!!

Who would have thought that this year would have been quite so awful this way?

My husband's grandmother could not get out of Sarasota. Her retirement community warned them that there was a major back-up on the interstate yesterday and today. They had been trying to evacuate the community -- until they heard that. Now, they are placing everyone in the community center until it passes over. They should be fine since Longboat Key and Sarasota are on the edge of the storm, though.

I just talked to my parents and grandparents. The worst is over. The eye went right over Palm Beach and Broward County so the damage will be extensive considering that's a huge, very populated area. My parents' patio screen completely collapsed and it's now scattered throughout the backyard. The trees in their backyard exploded. Someone's mattress is in their front yard. There are down powerlines all over the streets. Light posts have been bent in half.

A skylight in my aunt's house was pulled off in the wind and now she's got flooding in the house.

Power is completely out and probably will be for awhile.

It's pretty bad there. My grandmother was comparing this to Andrew (she was living in Miami during that and now lives in Boynton Beach). It's definitely not as strong as Andrew but Andrew had a much smaller eyewall so the extensive damage was limited to South Miami. This storm had a large eyewall that went over one of the most populated areas in the U.S.

My dad had been hoping Boynton Beach wouldn't be hit too hard since construction finally began on their house the other week. I'm guessing that wasn't the case from your post.

I hope your Grandmother and everyone else is OK.

My daughter lives in Ft. Lauderdale. She stayed with friends last night and they are all fine. No electricity and no running water though.
The roof of the house next to theirs came off. There's lots of wind damage, but it could have been so much worse; look what it did to Cancun!! At least it went through Florida quickly!

It did a tremendous amount of damage in Cuba. They were showing the flooding there and it looked quite similar to New Orleans after Katrina.

I hope those of you (as well as your families) are doing okay with this hurricane. I know that we are getting some rain and heavy winds here in Virginia Beac that the weathermen are attributing to Wilma. Here's to hoping it goes way out in the Atlantic. My knees can only take so much of this damp and rainy weather!

My pal's boat, etc. dodged the worst of the storm -- it went a little South.

Another pal I know from Ohio U. is an editor at a newspaper in Ft. Lauderdale -- but he was in Ohio, as was I, for Homecoming when the storm passed over them. Good planning.

I hope I get described like this someday.

Except for the 'she' part.
