OK...all the girls who look like death warmed over with smoky eyes, listen up 'cause I figured out how to do it! Instead of putting dark shadow on your lid, put it above your eye starting at the crease and letting it sort of blend away at your brow bone (I used some brown and grey Maybelline shadows). Then, put a shimmery gel shadow on your actual lid, line your bottom lid with a dark eyeliner, and then finish with your mascara. The dark shadow above your eye will give you the smoky look while the shimmery stuff on your lid will sort of open your eyes...so you pretty much the get same effect, only you don't look like you have a huge shiner!

you can do a smokey eye with any color, it's about the technique.

you can do a light color on the brow bone, a medium color in the crease and the darker color on the lid. you want to blend where the colors meet and line your eyes with the darkest color.

or if you want to use black, use a shimmery champagne shade as your brow high light. use a base to make the e/s stick and show up better. a matte black on the lid. and a shimmery black over that and blend. line with black liner etc.

Bummer...I

thought this thread would explain to me how to get cigarette smoke to come out of my eye. You know, like a trick you might see someone do at a party or a bar. Oh well.
